Illogical Inventions written by James Carter and has been published by Publifye AS this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-03-29 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Illogical Inventions explores the intriguing history of technological failures, examining inventions that, despite good intentions, missed the mark. The book delves into misguided innovations from the Victorian era to the 20th century, revealing how design flaws and a disconnect from real-world needs led to their downfall. One might be surprised to learn that some inventions failed not due to technical issues, but because they solved problems that didn't exist, or were far more complicated than the original issue. The book approaches these technological failures through detailed case studies organized thematically, grouping inventions by the problems they aimed to solve, such as personal hygiene or transportation. It analyzes the social and economic factors that influenced these misguided creations, highlighting the perils of ""technological solutionism."" By examining these ""illogical inventions,"" readers gain an appreciation for the iterative nature of innovation and the value of user-centered design. Ultimately, the book demonstrates that studying failures is just as important as studying successes in understanding technological progress.

Collaborative Knowledge Management Through Product Lifecycle written by Hongwei Wang and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-03-01 with Computers categories.

This book not only presents the state-of-the-art research on knowledge modelling, knowledge retrieval and knowledge reuse, but also elaborates the Collaborative Knowledge Management (CKM) paradigm and the architecture for the next generation of knowledge management systems. Although knowledge management has been extensively studied, particularly in the fields of business management and engineering design, there is a lack of systematic methodologies for addressing the integrated and collaborative dimension of knowledge management during the collaborative process of designing and developing complex systems, products, processes and services. The rapid development of information technologies, together with their applications in engineering and management, has laid the foundation for a Collaborative Knowledge Management (CKM) paradigm. The book specifically discusses this paradigm from a computational perspective. By exploring specific research findings underpinning further CKM research and applications and describing methods related to hot research topics and new research areas, the book appeals to professionals, researchers and graduate students who are interested in knowledge management and related topics and who have a basic understanding of information technologies, computational methods, and knowledge management.

This four-volume book examines, through multiple and cross-discipline perspectives, the science and practice of not-for-profit organisations. These organisations have drawn considerable attention and witnessed extensive growth as they engage in delivering public services to society. And are increasingly pressured to balance business with social goals, inherent idiosyncratic features with management creativity, structural limitations with operational flexibility, and ethical boundaries with pragmatism; all with scarce resources but abundant determination. The first volume explores the opportunities and challenges of non-profit organisations in the contemporary environment, elucidating current and future issues in the field, setting strategic directions, and presenting sector-wide examples and best practices. The second volume explores contextual aspects relating to the economy and industries. The third volume presents social and ethical aspects, as well as matters of sustainability, accountability and the overall wellbeing of society. The fourth and final volume examines structures and models, with an emphasis on technology.

Inquiring Organizations: Moving from Knowledge Management to Wisdom assembles into one volume a comprehensive collection of the key current thinking regarding the use of C. West Churchman's Design of Inquiring Systems as a basis for computer-based inquiring systems design and implementation. Inquiring systems are systems that go beyond knowledge management to actively inquire about their environment. While self-adaptive is an appropriate adjective for inquiring systems, they are critically different from self-adapting systems as they have evolved in the fields of computer science or artificial intelligence. Inquiring systems draw on epistemology to guide knowledge creation and organizational learning. As such, we can for the first time ever, begin to entertain the notion of support for “wise” decision-making. Readers of Inquiring Organizations: Moving from Knowledge Management to Wisdom will gain an appreciation for the role that epistemology can play in the design of the next generation of knowledge management systems: systems that focus on supporting wise decision-making processes.

Knowledge Management For Regional Policymaking written by Robert Laurini and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-01-01 with Science categories.

The present publication focusses the attention on new avenues in regional information and knowledge management, while we will zoom in particularly on the potential promises and hurdles of digital technology. This digital challenge has already generated a wealth of implications in the area of smart or intelligent cities, but as yet far less has been achieved in the field of regional planning and regional science. There is clearly a need for a more systematic and wide-ranging assessment and presentation of emerging approaches and concepts in this field, for instance, in regard to principles (e.g. geographic rule modeling), methodologies (e.g. blockchain systems), data analytics (e.g. machine learning) and data governance (e.g. data sovereignty) of regional information and knowledge. Especially in our ‘big data’ era, a systematic, comprehensible and reliable acquisition, storage, sharing and handling of data (e.g. on the basis of systematic decomposition and filtering principles) is more needed than ever before. The present study seeks to present a selection of state-of-the-art contributions on advanced – often digitally-oriented – regional information and knowledge management foundations, principles and practices written by several experts in the field of spatial informatics. These contributions were collected with a view to the design of a comprehensive knowledge and research agenda, which was discussed during a brainstorm workshop in Lyon, France (October 2021). This book covers various fields of interest, such as GeoAI, knowledge modelling, IoT and scalability, space syntax, rule extraction, data governance and data self-sovereignty. It is concluded with a knowledge and research agenda outlining future endeavors in the field of the spatial information sciences (or spatial informatics).
