Inhaltsangabe:Problemstellung: Reisen in Entwicklungsländer sind immer noch im stetigen Wachstum. Gründe dafür gibt es viele und Fakt ist, dass der Tourismus für wirtschaftlich benachteiligte Regionen oft die einzige Einkommensmöglichkeit ist. Genau dies wird allerdings immer wieder kritisiert. Diesen Regionen fehlt es meist an Kapital, Infrastruktur und auch an Know-how um aus eigener Kraft eine funktionierende Tourismusindustrie aufzubauen. Diese Faktoren führen dann zu ökonomischer Abhängigkeit gegenüber ausländischen Investoren, unkontrolliertem Massentourismus sowie auch ökologischen und sozio-kulturellen Problematiken. Experten fordern daher seit Jahren einen Tourismus, der es einer Region ermöglicht, sich nachhaltig langfristig zu entwickeln. Das Credo der Nachhaltigkeit, ökologisch, sozio-kulturell wie auch ökonomisch ist es, verfügbaren Ressourcen so zu nutzen, dass sowohl den Bedürfnissen der gegenwärtigen Generation entsprochen wird, als auch zukünftige Generationen ihrerseits die Möglichkeit haben ihre eigenen Bedürfnisse zu befriedigen. Ein Weg um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, sind so genannte Community based Tourism Projekte (in weiterer Folge kurz CBT-Projekte genannt). Sie sind Instrumente mit denen eine erfolgreiche Implementierung von nachhaltigem touristischem Fortschritt in Entwicklungsländern (EL) ermöglicht werden kann und bei der die Partizipation der Einheimischen dabei imMittelpunkt steht. Seit einigen Jahren werden diese Projekte in der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit eingesetzt. Um ihren langfristigen Erfolg zu gewährleisten, muss die Bevölkerung sowohl am Aufbau, als auch an der Weiterentwicklung des Tourismus beteiligt sein. Tourismusplaner müssen sich mit den örtlichen Gegebenheiten auseinandersetzen und vor allem die Lebensumstände der Bewohner berücksichtigen. Der partizipatorische Ansatz des CBT wird mit folgender Aussage von Dahles / Keune unterstrichen: Community-based tourism would seek to strengthen institutions designed to enhance local participation and promote the economic, social, and cultural well-being of local people . Viele erfolgsversprechende CBT-Projekte scheitern jedoch schon in den ersten Jahren. Ein Grund dafür ist in vielen Fällen das Nichtbeachten wirtschaftlicher Kriterien. Um lokale Partizipation, Umwelt- und Ressourcenschutz, und eine Erhöhung der Lebensqualität für die Bevölkerung zu erreichen, muss auch mit unternehmerischem Denken und Marktorientierung agiert werden. Slum tourism is a globalizing trend and a controversial form of tourism. Impoverished urban areas have always enticed the popular imagination, considered to be places of ‘otherness’, ‘moral decay’, ‘deviant liberty’ or ‘authenticity’. ‘Slumming’ has a long tradition in the Global North, for example in Victorian London when the upper classes toured the East End. What is new, however, is its development dynamics and its rapidly spreading popularity across the globe. Township tourism and favela tourism have currently reached mass tourism characteristics in South Africa and in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In other countries of the Global South, slum tourism now also occurs and providers see huge growth potential. While the morally controversial practice of slum tourism has raised much attention and opinionated debates in the media for several years, academic research has only recently started addressing it as a global phenomenon. This edition provides the first systematic overview of the field and the diverse issues connected to slum tourism. This multidisciplinary collection is unique both in its conceptual and empirical breadth. Its chapters indicate that ‘global slumming’ is not merely a controversial and challenging topic in itself, but also offers an apt lens through which to discuss core concepts in critical tourism studies in a global perspective, in particular: ‘poverty’, ‘power’ and ‘ethics’.
