“प्रस्तुत पुस्तक श्रीरामकृष्ण मिशन की कहानी है जिसमें रामकृष्ण मिशन के द्वारा की गई मानवता की प्रेममयी सेवा अथवा स्वामी विवेकानन्द के शब्दों में ‘‘उस ईश्वर की सेवा है जिसे अज्ञानी जन मनुष्य कहते हैं’’ का वर्णन किया गया है। यह रामकृष्ण मिशन का इतिहास नहीं जिसमें बाह्य घटनाओं का वर्णन किया जाता है। इसमें उस आत्म-परिवर्तन की बात कही गई है, जो श्रीरामकृष्ण के सान्निध्य मात्र से कुछ लोगों के जीवन में और विशेषकर नरेन्द्रनाथ (स्वामी विवेकानन्द) के जीवन में आया था। इस आत्म-परिवर्तन का परिणाम ही यह संगठन है जिसे हम रामकृष्ण मठ और रामकृष्ण मिशन के नाम से जानते हैं। नवीन रामकृष्ण मिशन आज अपने १२५ वर्ष पूरे कर चुका है। यह एक नवीन सन्यासी संगठन है, जो चार योगों – ज्ञान, भक्ति, कर्म और ध्यान के समन्वय पर बल देता है। यह समय की भी माँग है। व्यक्ति में अन्तःपरिवर्तन, योग समन्वय, भारत की नियति, मानव जाति की आध्यात्मिक परिणति और उसके लिए सामूहिक प्रयास – ये ही इस प्रकाशन के पंच प्राण हैं। रामकृष्ण मिशन के १२५ वें वर्ष समारोह और आजादी के अमृत महोत्सव वर्ष के अवसर पर यह प्रकाशन लोगों को इस दिशा में प्रोत्साहित करेगा – यही हमारी आकांक्षा है? “रामकृष्ण मिशन की स्थापना १ मई १८९७ को हुई। स्थापना करने के पूर्व स्वामी विवेकानन्द ने कई बार सोचा – ‘‘मैं कहीं नवीन सम्प्रदाय तो खड़ा नहीं कर रहा हूँ?’’ आज हम कह सकते हैं कि रामकृष्ण मिशन ऐसा मिशन है जिसमें लेशमात्र भी साम्प्रदायिकता नहीं है। स्वामीजी एक युगद्रष्टा महापुरुष थे जो युग की आवश्यकता को जानते थे। स्वामीजी ने कहा था, ‘धर्म आज उपहासास्पद हो गया है। जगत् को चाहिए “एक ऐसा चरित्र जो प्रेम से परिपूर्ण हो। धर्म आज मतों और पन्थों में बँट गया है जिसके कारण धर्म को मतान्धता का ग्रहण लग गया है। धर्म का स्वरूप विकृत हो गया है।’ धर्म को लेकर मनुष्य की स्थिति साँप-छछूँदर जैसी हो गई है। न छोड़ते बने और न निगलते बने, छोड़ा तो अन्धे और निगला तो मरे। स्वामी विवेकानन्द चाहते थे कि हमें एक ऐसा धर्म चाहिए जिसमें कट्टरतावादी की तीव्रता (Intensity of a fanatic) हो और जड़वादी की उदारता (Extensity of a materialist) एक साथ हो। रामकृष्ण मिशन के रूप में ऐसा ही धर्म सामने आया है । १ मई २०२२ में रामकृष्ण मिशन अपने ‘१२५’ वर्ष पूरे कर चुका है। लोगों की माँग थी कि रामकृष्ण मिशन के बारे में विस्तृत जानकारी देने वाला एक प्रकाशन लाया जाय। प्रस्तुत प्रकाशन समाज की इस आवश्यकता की पूर्ति करता है। प्रकाशन की विषय सामग्री को चार भागों में विभाजित किया गया है – प्रेरणास्रोत, विकास और विस्तार, योगदान, और दार्शनिक पीठिका। वर्तमान वर्ष भारत में स्वतंत्रता के ७५ वर्ष पूरे होने पर ‘अमृत महोत्सव’ के रूप में भी मनाया जा रहा है। पराधीन भारत के प्रतिनिधि के रूप में पहुँचे हुए स्वामी विवेकानन्द ने विश्ववासियों को अमृत के पुत्रों “(अमृतस्य पुत्रा:) कहकर सम्बोधित किया था। इस दृष्टि से इस प्रकाशन को अमृत-महोत्सव के एक अंग के रूप में भी देखा जा सकता है। कुल मिलाकर रामकृष्ण मिशन के उद्गम और उद्भव को एक प्रक्रिया के रूप में प्रस्तुत किया गया है, जो मानवता की परिपूर्णता हेतु स्वामी विवेकानन्द के दृष्टिकोण की ओर हमारा ध्यान आकर्षित करती है।
