Resimli Seyyahname iyi eğitilmiş donanımlı bir Osmanlı devlet adamının eğitimini ilerletmek için gittiği İngiltere ve Fransa’nın askerlik, diplomasi, eğitim, ekonomi, şehircilik ve teknoloji kurumlarını ve uygulamalarını geniş bir perspektiften anlattığı seyahatname eseridir. Yazar 1835 yılından başlamak üzere bizzat gördüğü yerleri, tecrübe ettiği durumları ve kaynaklardan okuyarak derlediği bilgileri sık sık dönem için çok yeni ve farklı sayılabilecek şekilde resim ve cetvellerle anlatır. Kitabın hazırlanmasında padişaha sunulan ve içinde çok değerli suluboya resim ve cetvellerin bulunduğu eksiksiz elyazması nüsha esas alınmıştır. Yazar, eserinde Osmanlı Devleti’nin çeşitli yönlerini İngiltere ve Fransa’da gördüğü durumlarla mukayese etmiş ve yeni görüşler ortaya koymuştur. Eserde ismini belirtmemiş olsa da yazarın muhtemelen padişaha tavsiyeler sunabilecek seviyede mevki ve eğitime sahip olan ve 1835-1839 yıllarında Cambridge Üniversitesi’nde matematik eğitimi alan Mirliva Mehmed Emin Paşa olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Kitapta Seyyahname’nin nüshaları, konuları, dil ve üslubu, resim ve cetvelleri değerlendirilmiş, eserin standart Türkçeye çevirisi, çevriyazı metni, sözlüğü ve resimleri ortaya konulmuştur. Tanzimat Fermanının ilanından hemen önce kaleme alınan ve daha önce yayımlanmamış bu önemli kaynağı geniş bir inceleme ve tam metin olarak Seyahat Edebiyatı, Tanzimat Düşüncesi ve Edebi Dili, Modern Türkiye’nin Oluşumu Tarihi, Doğu-Batı Sorunsalı ve 19. Yüzyıl Avrupa Tarihi gibi konulara ilgi duyan araştırmacıların ve meraklı okuyucuların dikkatine sunmaktan büyük mutluluk duyuyoruz.

The objective of this work is to define and establish the class of adverbs in Old Anatolian Turkish (OAT) as a solid grammatical category. In this work, adverbs and adverbials are taken in a wider scope, and the phrasal and syntactic adverbial constructions such as word groups, converbs and adverbial clauses are analyzed for that purpose. Adverbs are treated as a syntactic phenomenon and all analyses are carried out on syntactic contexts in examples of full sentences and sentence groups. In this work, the aim is to answer the following questions in OAT: to show what the functions and functional variations of adverbs are in the sentence, to show what the structures and the structural variations of adverbs are, to define what the meanings of the adverbs in OAT as a grammatical category are by examining the lexical, morphological and syntactic elements in the sentence.

Ottoman Turkish so-called transcription texts are texts occasionally written in non-Arabic scripts such as Roman, Greek, Armenian, and Georgian. The authors of these texts were "mediators" between Europe and the Middle East, compilers of grammars, vocabularies, and comments for language students. The contributions to this volume deal with the value of the mediator texts. They analyze, on the basis of insightful analytic methods, how these texts can be used to reconstruct spoken Ottoman varieties and draw conclusions concerning earlier stages of Turkish language history. The contributions were originally presented at a workshop titled "The Mediators: Ottoman Turkish and Persian in Non-Arabic Scripts", organized by the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul and the Orient-Institut Istanbul. The topic was also thematically relevant for an interdisciplinary research project, "The Urban Mind. Cultural and Environmental Dynamics", carried out at Uppsala University and devoted to "linguistic ecology", i.e., the relationships and interactions of linguistic codes employed in urban settings. The volume includes a copy of a panoramic view of Constantinople, drawn in 1710 by the Swedish military draughtsman Cornelius Loos and now preserved in the national museum in Stockholm.
