The main aim of this research is to achieve a critical understanding of the particular objectives of the implementation of AI in institutions regulating national relations (which generally presuppose high authority of such institutions and security details). Further, the study aims also to explore the ways AI can facilitate the efficiency and integrity of the government, media, international and public organizations. this [sic] dissertation posed the following research questions: a) what [sic] are the implications of AI for data security at the national level? b) how [sic] can government institutions leverage AI to regulate inter-state relations? c) how [sic] can governments protects themselves from the negative externalities associated with AI in the context of national security? To address these questions, this dissertation uses a qualitative research approach and a case study research design based on the 2016 US Presidential elections. In response to the research questions posed it was found that although the United States remains a robust force in international [sic] political and economic affairs, AI technologies have undermined its democratic systems as a result of Russia's involvement in its elections. From a conceptual point of view, this form of social engineering hack aims to target people and influence their opinions in ways that are extremely dangerous. Indeed, it is this dangerous application of AI in context of inter-state relations that provokes important questions about the robustness of the US' national strategy. There is the imperative of policymakers to revise their approach to national security in light of new tools and technologies, in order to bridge the technology gap between itself and its adversaries. It was argued in this dissertation that such strategies must be supported by a change in user policies with respect to social media to promote the safety of citizens.
