Die bis in unsere Gegenwart hineinreichende Gewissheit, dass es sich bei ästhetischer Praxis um die Praxis von Künstlern und die Wahrnehmung von Kunst durch ein Publikum handeln müsse, ist brüchig geworden. Eine Reihe von Indizien legen den Schluss nahe, dass der Bereich ästhetischer Praktiken und das Kunstfeld in der Gesellschaft eine nur noch partiale Deckung aufweisen. Beispiele für ästhetische Praktiken finden sich in der Mode, der Werbung und dem Design ebenso wie in den neuen Medien sowie in der Musik- und Videospielindustrie. Aber auch Kosmetik-Ketten und Parfümerien, Schönheitschirurgen, Tätowierungsshops, Büros für Inneneinrichtung- und Landschaftsarchitektur, Blumenläden sowie Wellnessbetriebe annoncieren ihre Produkte und Dienstleistungen als ästhetisch. Angesichts des sowohl rasant steigenden Gebrauchs des Adjektivs „ästhetisch“ in der alltäglichen Lebenspraxis als auch des vermehrten wissenschaftlichen Bedürfnisses, das „Ästhetische“ an (bis dato) unverdächtigen Stellen in der Gesellschaft nachzuweisen, sind die Beiträge dieses Bandes entlang einer Leitfragestellung organisiert: Soll man das verstärkte Aufkommen ästhetischer Praktiken in der Gesellschaft in einer eher kulturwissenschaftlichen und -soziologischen Perspektive verstehen und also als eine „Selbstentgrenzung der Künste“? Oder zieht man dazu besser eine zwar nur äußerst selten gebrauchte, nichtsdestotrotz ebenso einprägsame wie aufschlussreiche Formel Adornos heran und begreift die Ästhetisierung der Gesellschaft als eine „Entkunstung der Kunst“?

Aesthetics is no longer merely the philosophy of perception and the arts. Nelson Goodman, Arthur Danto and others have contributed to develop aesthetics from a field at the margins of philosophy to one permeating substantial areas of theoretical and practical philosophy. New approaches like environmental and ecological aesthetics widened the understanding of the aesthetics of nature. The contributions in this volume address the most important issues in contemporary aesthetics, many of them from a Wittgensteinian perspective. The 39th International Ludwig Wittgenstein Symposium, organized by the Austrian Ludwig Wittgenstein Society, was held at Kirchberg am Wechsel, Lower Austria, from August 7th to 13th 2016 and aimed at taking an inventory of important tendencies and positions in contemporary aesthetics. The volume includes a selection of the invited papers.

What does another language do to the individual who learns and uses it? How is the individual's idea of self affected by the other language? This case study deals with these two overarching questions within the context of learning English as a foreign language through drama at a German upper-secondary school in South Tyrol. It investigates how the students see themselves in their roles, how they perceive themselves as users of the foreign language, and how they experience themselves in-role in another language. The results show how powerful drama-based activities can be and what educational impact they have.

Die höfische Festkultur ist einerseits Ort ästhetischer Praxis, andererseits Gegenstand künstlerischer Repräsentationen. Als Denkmodell diente das Fest zudem der Selbstdarstellung der höfischen Gesellschaft. Die Festkultur prägt folglich nicht nur das Divertissement des jeweiligen Hofes, sondern erlaubt auch die Fabrikation einer nationalen bzw. kulturellen Identität. Der Band führt erstmals die Spannungsfelder der kontinentaleuropäischen Hofkultur zwischen 1500 und 1700 mit Fokus auf die soziale und ästhetische Praxis der Feste zusammen und richtet so einen kulturhistorischen Blick auf die Festkultur. Die Beiträge behandeln die verschiedenen Habitusformen der höfischen Kultur, die zwischen höfischer und Selbstinszenierung sowie standesgemäßen Gender Repräsentationen und vorsichtigen Transgressionen konstruiert werden. Die Leitfragen des Bandes, auf die die Beiträger in exemplarischen Lektüren antworten, lautet: Lässt sich vom System der Distinktion der höfischen Gesellschaft, die zur Entwicklung von neuen Habitusformen wie dem ,cortegiano' oder ,galant homme' führt, auf eine Dialektik zwischen höfischer Festpraxis und Gestaltung des Menschenbilds schließen? In this book, native popular musicologists focus on their own popular music cultures from Germany, Austria and Switzerland for the first time: from subcultural to mainstream phenomena; from the 1950s to contemporary acts.
