Geography Of The New Education Market written by Chris Taylor and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02-06 with Social Science categories.

This title was first published in 2000. A series of major reforms during the 1980s and 1990s have led to the transformation of the Education System in England and Wales. The new system is now based on market principles in schooling resources. Parents now have the opportunity to state a preference over the school they would like their children to attend. This fascinating book sets out the new geographies of education, focusing on the spatial organization of the new market system. Using Geographical Information Systems (GIS), it examines patterns of competition and choice based on pupil home postcodes and relates these to the decision-making process of parents. It also makes comparisons between different LEAs and schools in urban and rural areas, analyzing the constraints created by space and geography. In considering the effectiveness and impact of this new form of provision, the book plays an important role in understanding and appreciating the impact of the education market upon social mobility and community structure.

This book brings together recent papers which make important contributions to understanding and developing primary geography. It considers primary teachers’ and trainee teachers’ knowledge of geography; how the primary curriculum uses geography; teachers’ planning of geography teaching; the way in which aspects of geography are taught; what high quality geography might look like; and children’s geographical understanding and voices. Though geography curricula change quite often in countries around the world, the core matters noted above remain of constant and vital importance. The papers in this book either concern research with primary teachers and children, or consider key concerns in primary geography, providing important perspectives for thinking about future developments in geography teaching and curriculum initiatives in primary schools. This is a stimulating and enticing collection written by leading exponents of, and experts in, primary geography education. This book was originally published as a special issue of Education 3-13.

Encyclopedia Of Educational Reform And Dissent written by Thomas C. Hunt and has been published by SAGE this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-01-12 with Education categories.

The history of American education is replete with educational reform, and to a lesser extent, educational dissent. Consider the present: you have various forms of privatization, school choice, the 'No Child Left Behind' act, home schooling, 'value-added' accountability, alternative teacher preparation programs, on-line instruction, etc. This range of activity is not exceptional. For instance, consider the past: progressive education, open education, the junior high school, the middle school, Life Adjustment education, career education, vocational education, the comprehensive high school, school-to-work, year-round schooling, behavioral objectives, proficiency exams (high-stakes testing), whole language, learning packages and self-paced instruction, modular scheduling, site-based management, all presented as the way to reform American schools, at least in part. Then you have the reformers themselves, such as John Dewey, George Counts, Herbert Kohl, John Holt, Charles Silberman, Admiral Hyman Rickover, James Bryant Conant, all the way back to Horace Mann himself. Dissenters, and dissenting movements, while not as numerous and certainly not as well known in educational circles, count the various faith-based schools and individuals such as Archbishop Hughes of New York.Clearly, this is an area rich in ideas, rife with controversy, and vital in its outcome for individuals and the nation as a whole. And yet, strangely enough, there exists no major encyclopedia bringing the varied strands together in one place as a ready reference for scholars, teachers, school administrators, and students studying to enter the educational profession. This two-volume work is intended to be that authoritative resource. Key themes and topics include: " biographies of reformers and dissenters " theoretical and ideological perspectives " key programs and legislation " judicial verdicts impacting educational change in America " the politics and processes of educational reform and policy making " dissent and resistance to reform " technology's impact on educational reform. A Reader's Guide in the front matter groups entries around such themes to help readers find related entries more easily.
