World Peace written by Alex J. Bellamy and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-09-12 with Political Science categories.

For as long as there has been war, there have been demands for its elimination. The quest for world peace has excited and eluded political leaders, philosophers, religious elders, activists, and artists for millennia. With war on the rise once again, we rarely reflect on what world peace might look like; much less on how it might be achieved. World Peace aims to change all that and show that world peace is possible. Because the motives, rationales, and impulses that give rise to war - the quest for survival, enrichment, solidarity, and glory - are now better satisfied through peaceful means, war is an increasingly anachronistic practice, more likely to impoverish and harm us humans than satisfy and protect us. This book shows that we already have many of the institutions and practices needed to make peace possible and sets out an agenda for building world peace. In the immediate term, it shows how steps to strengthen compliance with international law, improve collective action such as international peacekeeping and peacebuilding, better regulate the flow of arms, and hold individuals legally accountable for acts of aggression or atrocity crimes can make our world more peaceful. It also shows how in the long term, building strong and legitimate states that protect the rights and secure the livelihoods of their people, gender equal societies, and protecting the right of individuals to opt-out of wars has the potential to establish and sustain world peace. But it will only happen, if individuals organize to make it happen.

A Quest For Global Peace written by Joseph Rotblat and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-10-09 with Political Science categories.

One of the 'inventors' of the nuclear bomb, Sir Joseph Rotblat very soon turned away from weapons research to make a prolonged and principled stand against the dangers of nuclear proliferation. A physicist of great brilliance, he metamorphosed into a campaigner of admired moral conviction and leadership. This series of dialogues between two leading ethical thinkers brings together the courage and humanity of Rotblat with the spiritual wisdom and global visionary outlook of Daisaku Ikeda, the leader of the world's largest and most influential lay Buddhist organisation. Together they reflect on fundamental issues of war and peace, the ethics of nuclear deterrence and the trajectory of Joseph Rotblat's career, from the Manhattan Project to the Pugwash Conference and his Nobel Prize. Rotblat's life-long mantra was that scientists have a moral responsibility to save lives, not destroy them. The integrity of both writers emerges powerfully and inspiringly from their wide-ranging discussions, which serve as a stark warning against the dangers of a resurgent atomic weapons race.

Give Peace A Deadline written by Nathan Otto and has been published by Greenleaf Book Group this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Political Science categories.

For many, peace is an elusive dream; true advances toward this communal goal have been few. But this book bursts through the barrier of apathy to show individual readers how they can actually help achieve world peace -- in just five years. By adopting "action through access", a trail-blazing approach to activism, the authors build on technological advances in both communication and collabora-tion to present a well-defined plan to end global conflict. By applying busi-ness disciplines, such as professional management and result measurement, to the peace-making process, Nathan Otto and Amber Lupton have ignited a revolution for global peace that will attract a broad range of peace seekers ready for immedi-ate action and real results. Otto and Lupton don't just offer theories and concepts. Through con-nections with world leaders, major corporations, leading peace activists, and international media, the authors have developed a broad market-ing platform for their peace program. And for readers who are ready to take responsibility for achieving peace, this is a beacon of hope in tumultuous times.

Over the course of her baking career, Dorie Greenspan has created more than 300 cookie recipes. Yet she has never written a book about them—until now. To merit her “three purple stars of approval,” every cookie had to be so special that it begged to be made again and again. Cookies for every taste and occasion are here. There are company treats like Portofignos, with chocolate dough and port-soaked figs, and lunch-box Blueberry Buttermilk Pie Bars. They Might Be Breakfast Cookies are packed with goodies—raisins, dried apples, dried cranberries, and oats— while Almond Crackle Cookies have just three ingredients. There are dozens of choices for the Christmas cookie swaps, including Little Rascals (German jam sandwich cookies with walnuts), Italian Saucissons (chocolate log cookies studded with dried fruit), and Snowy-Topped Brownie Drops. And who but America’s favorite baker could devise a cookie as intriguing as Pink-Peppercorn Thumbprints or as popular as the World Peace Cookie, with its 59 million Internet fans?

Norman Thomas written by Raymond F. Gregory and has been published by Algora Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Civil rights movements categories.

Norman Thomas, for over 50 years a relentless advocate for justice and equality for all Americans, was convinced that socialism was the sole path to economic and political justice. He advocated the adoption of economic programs that ultimately became the fabric of American life and social security, unemployment insurance, minimum wage laws, a ban on child labor, workers' compensation and anti-discrimination laws. Fighting to relieve underprivileged workers from the extremes of a capitalistic system, he was subjected to physical attack, was tear-gassed, arrested and jailed. Unquestionably a man of great courage, Thomas also was a man far in advance of his time, anticipating an ever-expanding welfare state and an international interdependency inspired by a global economy. Six times the Socialist Party candidate for president, Thomas promoted a brand of socialism that shunned class conflict and the violence of revolution. Thomas repeatedly condemned Communist Party advocacy of violent class warfare, believing that socialism should replace capitalism through democratic means and without violence. But this fundamental difference in Socialist and Communist principles did not deter Thomas from continuing attempts to persuade others that Socialists and Communists could co-operate in attaining that goal. In this work, Raymond F. Gregory examines Norman Thomas's life from the perspective of his lifelong endeavor to attain justice and equality for the poor and the oppressed of his time.
