Trois relèvent de l'iconographie prolongée par l'histoire de la peinture et de la sculpture. Le quatrième, qui s'y rattache aussi, est consacré a Fra Ange lica, la plus pure gloire artistique de l'église, dont nous ne sommes' pas assez fiers. Les quatre autres traitent de notre architecture religieuse du moyen âge. Ces deux groupes d'articles correspondent aux deux faces de l'art chrétien, lequel, en mème temps qu'il s'exprimait en des images peintes ou sculptées, faisait'chanter a' la pierre cet hymne magnifique dont chaque église est une strophe. De l'un à l'autre la séparation n'est pas absolue, et les deux pour tant différents qu'ils soient, se pénètrent. C 'est ainsi qu'au sujet de la déviation de 'l'axe des églises, l iconographie du crucifix vient s'ajouter d la science architectonique pour compléter l'argumentation.
