Jahrhunderts enormen Herausforderungen stellen. Ressourcenkriege, das Ansteigen der Ozeane, der fortschreitende Verlust von Biodiversität: Für kommende Generationen ist eine Zuspitzung der Probleme zu erwarten. Die allgemeine Besorgnis wächst, ebenso der Druck eine Lösung zu finden. Der Schlüsselbegriff, der unsere Ge-sellschaft zu einer nachhaltigen machen soll, ist Verantwortungsübernahme. Jeder Ak-teur der Gesellschaft wird von dieser dazu angehalten, seinen eigenen Beitrag zu erken-nen und Verantwortung zu übernehmen. Er muss sich für die gute Sache einsetzen, rich-tig handeln. Was dabei ‚gut’ und ‚richtig’ ist, ist nicht nur eine Frage des Gesetzes, son-dern auch der Moral. Die moralische Verantwortungsübernahme von Einzelpersonen und auch – oder gerade – anderen Akteuren wie Unternehmen spielen eine wichtige Rolle, denn oft haben sie einen größeren Wirkungskreis als Individuen. Ihre Materialströme sind es beispielsweise, in denen enormes Potential zur Ressourcenschonung steckt. Im Unterschied zu Individuen aber haben Unternehmen nicht selten problematische Grundvoraussetzungen ihre moralische Verantwortung zu erkennen und zu übernehmen. Sie sind ein Zusammenschluss verschiedener Individuen, die selbst in ihrer Position funk-tionale Verantwortung tragen. Der Vorstand einer AG beispielsweise wird seiner Rolle laut Aktiengesetz dann gerecht, wenn er „zum Wohle der Gesellschaft“ (AktG §93) han-delt, wobei mit ‚Gesellschaft’ das Unternehmen gemeint ist. Zum Wohle der Gesellschaft bedeutet auch dem Unternehmen zu einem guten Ruf zu verhelfen, damit es in der Öf-fentlichkeit als legitim anerkannt wird und erfolgreich sein kann. Moralische Verantwor-tungsübernahme spielt für Unternehmen deshalb vor allem dort eine Rolle, wo die Öffent-lichkeit sie sehen kann. Diese inkonsequente Übernahme von moralischer Verantwortung kann dazu führen, dass jenes Handeln, das nach Ansicht der Öffentlichkeit nicht mora-lisch korrekt ist, entlarvt wird. Das Unternehmen wird Gegenstand eines Skandals. Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist die Beschreibung dieses Konflikts. Es soll ein Verständnis dafür entwickelt werden, in welchem Dilemma Unternehmen sich befinden, deren System es nicht erlaubt, einwandfrei moralische Verantwortung zu übernehmen, von denen aber eben dies verlangt wird.
