Die Landesvollzugsgesetze von Bayern, Hamburg und Niedersachsen sind in der Weise eingearbeitet, dass der Kommentierung jedes Paragraphen des StVollzG ein zusätzlicher Abschnitt "Landesgesetze" angefügt ist. Dort wird auf Übereinstimmungen mit bzw. Abweichungen von dem StVollzG aufmerksam gemacht sowie - soweit angebracht - aus den Gesetzesbegründungen zu den Landesgesetzen zitiert. Darüber hinaus werden in der Kommentierung des StVollzG Ländervorschriften angesprochen, wenn diese für das Verständnis und die Auslegung der Bundesregelung von Bedeutung sind. Damit die Leser in Bayern, Hamburg und Niedersachsen davon Gebrauch machen können, sind am Ende des Bandes die Landesgesetze abgedruckt, wobei jede Landesvorschrift mit einem Verweis auf die entsprechende Kommentierung im StVollzG versehen ist. Das grundlegende Verständnis der Herausgeber ist indessen seit der ersten Auflage gleichgeblieben: Es handelt sich um einen Kommentar von Praktikern für Praktiker, der zugleich für sich in Anspruch nimmt, die Auseinandersetzung mit Rechtsprechung und wissenschaftlichen Auffassungen angemessen zu führen.
