Federico GARCÍA LORCA (1898-1936), nacido en Fuente Vaqueros, provincia de Granada y asesinado el 19 de agosto de 1936 por milicias franquistas. Estudió en las universidades de Granada y Madrid, ciudad esta última donde se instalará en la Residencia de Estudiantes. En ella conocerá Buñuel, Dalí, Alberti y otros escritores. Su primera colección poética "Libro de poemas" apareció en1921. Siguió "Romancero gitano" (1928), con el cual alcanzó una extraordinaria popularidad. En 1929 viajó a Nueva-York y de las impresiones de esta visita surgió "Poeta en Nueva-York". Seguidamente su interés se dirige principalmente hacia el teatro, género al que se inicia con "Mariana Pineda". En 1932 crea el Teatro Universitario "La Barraca" con la finalidad de hacer llegar las obras clásicas a todo el mundo, incluso a los pueblos más apartados. Su teatro alcanza una altura similar a la de su obra poética y constituye una de las cumbres de la dramática española moderna. El 16 de julio de 1936 viaja de Madrid a Granada, donde es detenido y fusilado un mes después.
