The authors present the results of a simulation study to perform the extraction of 2[beta] + [gamma] from B° → D{sup {-+}}K°[pi]{sup {+-}} decays through a time-dependent Dalitz analysis of BaBar data.

The CP violation is explained in the Standard Model with three quark generations with an irreducible phase in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark mixing matrix. The unitarity of this matrix can be represented in a complex plane as a triangle (called Unitarity Triangle). The measurement of the parameters of the triangle is a powerful test of the Standard Model description of the CP violation. This thesis tries to measure the weak phase 2beta+ gamma through the B0 -> D+ K0 Pi- decays. Respect to the two body decays B0 -> D(*)+ Pi- and B0 -> D+ Rho- presently used for the measurement of the same weak phase, the B0 -> D+ K0 Pi- decays should show up a larger CP asymmetry and does not rely on any theoretical assumption. After a review of all the methods for the measurement of 2beta+gamma, the thesis presents the results of a feasibility study of the measurement with the B0 -> D+ K0 Pi- decays . In a second part, the analysis performed on 316 fb-1 of data collected by the BaBar detector at the B-factory PEP2 is presented, from the selection of the events to the time-dependent Dalitz fit technique used in order to extract the weak phase 2beta+gamma as well as the amplitudes and phases of the intermediate resonances contributing to the decay. The result of the analysis gives the following estimation: 2beta+gamma = 89 +/- 53(stat) +23-14(syst) degrees with an irreducible ambiguity of 180 degrees.

We present a feasibility study for a new analysis for extracting the angle of the Unitarity Triangle from the study of the neutral B meson decays. We reconstruct the decay channel B° → {bar D}°K*° with the K*° → K?− and the {bar D}° → K{sub S}?+?− using a D° Dalitz analysis technique. The sensitivity to the angle comes from the interference of the b → c and b → u processes contributing to the same final state and by the fact that the B°({bar B}°) can be unambiguously identified through the sign of electric charge of the kaon from K*°({bar K}*°) decay. The impact of the result of such analysis is evaluated for the actual BaBar statistics.

The BaBar experiment has completed its first year of data-taking during which 21 fb−1 of data were accumulated. We present preliminary results on two types of charmless B decays based on this data sample. The first, B° 2!K*°[gamma], is a so-called electromagnetic penguin. And the second, B° 2!h h'− can be either a pion or kaon, can come from either penguin diagrams or Cabibbo suppressed tree diagrams.

Measurements and searches for rare B decays have been performed with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II e[sup +]e[sup -] asymmetric B Factory, operating at the [Upsilon](4S) resonance. The authors report some recent branching fraction measurements on hadronic and radiative B decays, occurring from b --> s/d and b --> u transitions. Most of the results presented here are based on a data sample corresponding to a luminosity of 81.9 fb[sup -1].

The authors present an overview of some of the most recent results from the BABAR experiment. They discuss the latest measurement of the time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B decays to several CP eigenstates, that in the Standard Model (SM) is proportional to sin 2[beta]. They present measurements of branching fractions and CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B decays to two-body final states of charged pions and kaons, that are related to the angle [alpha] of the Unitarity Triangle. They also report the B[sup 0] lifetime measurement obtained from studying the B[sup 0] [yields] D*[sup -] [pi][sup +] and B[sup 0] [yields] D*[sup -] [rho][sup +] decay channels and the B[sup 0] [yields] D*[sup -] a[sub 1][sup +] branching fraction, obtained using a partial reconstruction technique. These measurements serve as a test and validation of the procedures required to measure the combination of CKM Unitarity Triangle angles sin(2[beta] + [gamma]).

We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa CP-violating phase {gamma} with a Dalitz plot analysis of neutral D-meson decays to the K{sub S}{sup 0} {pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup +} final state from B{sup {-+}} {yields} D{sup (*)}K{sup {-+}} and B{sup {-+}} {yields} DK*{sup {-+}} decays, using a sample of 227 million B{bar B} pairs collected by the BABAR detector. We measure {gamma} = (67 {+-} 28 {+-} 13 {+-} 11){sup o}, where the first error is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty and the third reflects the Dalitz model uncertainty. This result suffers from a two-fold ambiguity. The contribution to the Dalitz model uncertainty due to the description of the {pi}{pi} S-wave in D{sup 0} {yields} K{sub S}{sup 0}{pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup +}, evaluated using a K-matrix formalism, is found to be 3{sup o}.

The branching fractions of the exclusive decays B[sup 0][yields] K*[sup 0][gamma] and B[sup+][yields] K*[sup+][gamma] are measured. from a sample of (22.74[+-] 0.36) x 10[sup 6] B[bar B] decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP II asymmetric e[sup+]e[sup -] collider. We find[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] K*[sup 0][gamma])= (4.23[+-] 0.40(stat.)[+-] 0.22(sys.)) x 10[sup -5], [Beta](B[sup+][yields] K*[sup+][gamma])= (3.83[+-] 0.62(stat.)[+-] 0.22(sys.)) x 10[sup -5] and constrain the CP-violating charge asymmetry to be -0.170
