Bombs Away written by John Vetto and has been published by Wheatmark, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-12-29 with Performing Arts categories.

To movie critics, a bomb is unequivocally bad—something that failed artistically, failed at the box office, or both. John Vetto, who describes himself as a cinephile but (most assuredly) NOT a professional movie critic, defines the term more broadly. To Vetto, a bomb may have bombed at the box office or become a cult classic. It may be genuinely terrible or merely silly. The one thing all bombs have in common? They’re fun to watch. In Bombs Away: Fifty Old, Often Bad, and Mostly Forgotten Films, in No Particular Order, Vetto takes a deep dive into these works not to make light of them (well, not just to make light of them) but to explore their history and themes, draw connections, provide insight into human nature, and enlighten us as to how and why these cheaply-made films were created. So, grab some popcorn, dim the lights, and settle back for an edifying, entertaining journey through an underexplored corner of pop culture.

This is a series of anecdotes from my misspent youth as I went over to the dark side and got involved with motorcycles. If you are into motorcycles, planes, cars, and things to do with boats, I have a few stories to tell you. It is an interest in colonial Kenya and New Zealand life as seen in the eyes of a guy from long ago and far away. It has stories from my ninety-seven-year-old dad in Seychelles, his WWII service, his deals with his experiences in the Mau Mau Emergency in Kenya, and him bringing his family to New Zealand in the sixties. In the seventies and eighties, I served my twenty years in the RNZAF, putting down a lot of my mishaps and adventures in an interesting time domestically and overseas.

Hollyweird Science written by Kevin R. Grazier and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-07-27 with Science categories.

Lighthearted, quirky, and upbeat, this book explores the portrayal of science and technology on both the big and little screen -- and how Hollywood is actually doing a better job of getting it right than ever before. Grounded in the real-word, and often cutting-edge, science and technology that inspires fictional science, the authors survey Hollywood depictions of topics such as quantum mechanics, parallel universes, and alien worlds. Including material from interviews with over two dozen writers, producers, and directors of acclaimed science-themed productions -- as well as scientists, science fiction authors, and science advisors -- Hollyweird Science examines screen science fiction from the sometimes-conflicting vantage points of storytellers, researchers, and viewers. Including a foreword by Eureka co-creator and executive producer Jaime Paglia, and an afterword by astronomer and science fiction author Michael Brotherton, Ph.D., this book is accessible to all readers from the layperson to the armchair expert to the professional scientist, and will delight all of them equally.
