This document explores the practice of transcribing Baroque music for the trombone,euphonium, and tuba. It explores the transcribed works that have become part of the standard low brass solo repertoire, and the challenges that those transcriptions present to the student or amateur player. The document argues for a rethinking of the type of Baroque music that is most appropriate for performance on low brass instruments, and that the similarities between the voice and low brass instruments make Baroque vocal works ideal for low brass transcription. It offers an addition to the existing repertoire in the form of new transcriptions of vocal duets by George Frideric Handel for low brass.
