20 Years Of G20 written by Rajat Kathuria and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-05-04 with Business & Economics categories.

The book discusses contemporary issues such as global financial architecture and regulatory practices, trade, investment and the multilateral process, the future of work, the role of technology for adaptation and mitigation of climate change, and financing infrastructure for sustainable development. With increasing global connectivity, events in one part of the world immediately affect or spread to the other parts. In this context, G20 has proved to be an effective forum, particularly after the Asian financial crises. Furthermore, over recent decades, G20 has been instrumental in managing financial crises and international conflicts by deploying global cooperation as a functional tool. As a body responding to crises, the G20 has played a central role in providing the political momentum for the strong international cooperation that ensured greater policy coherence and helped ease situations that could otherwise have been decidedly worse. The G20’s agendas have encompassed short-term but critical issues of economic recovery, the sovereign crisis of Europe, high unemployment and financial sector regulation. But since moderate stabilization in the global economic environment, the focus of the group has also embraced long-term areas of governance and development. For emerging economies, such as India, the G20 has been an important platform framework to promote an inclusive global economic architecture that seeks to achieve equitable outcomes. This book reviews the past 20 years of the G20, since it was conceptualized as a replacement for the G-7. While issues such as global financial order have been a constant area of discussion, one of the failures has been not recognizing and acknowledging the importance of issues like trade, climate change and future of work. Featuring academic papers by experts in the area, this book provides a platform for the necessary discourse on these issues.

This book focuses on one of the two G20 tracks, the finance track. It examines the evolution of the finance track in G20, the organizational structure of the finance track, and the role of international organizations in reforming the financial architecture. It discusses how the agenda is formed and driven by the political economy of the host country as well as the imperative of the time. It also documents the finance track themes taken up by different G20 presidencies over the years. Some of the common threads between the G20 emerging economies’ presidencies in terms of the finance track themes that the G20 leaders have considered include financial sector regulation and reform, reform of international financial institutions, global growth and macroeconomic policies, international taxation, and financial inclusion. The book is an excellent resource for the researchers of international economics as well as for policymakers.

Global Economic Cooperation written by Rajat Kathuria and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-23 with Business & Economics categories.

This book discusses issues such as global financial crisis and global governance, food security, energy sustainability, the global financial system, trade and protectionism, and growth and employment. Since the outbreak of the financial as well as national debt crises in the Euro zone, the focus of the G20 has shifted back to addressing short-term issues. These issues range from the dynamic effects of global imbalances and the appropriate degree of financial sector regulation to questions of austerity versus growth and the lack of a comprehensive framework for managing the international monetary system. A further issue is the relevance of the G20 agenda for emerging market economies. Global economic recovery still remains fragile and downside risks to global growth remain. Additionally, much of the agenda of the Seoul Development Consensus for shared growth launched in 2010 has yet to be fulfilled. A key discussion point in the book, therefore, is how to make a tangible and significant difference in peoples’ lives by implementing an agenda of inclusive growth.

Can the G-20 become a steering committee for the world's economy? Launched at a moment of panic triggered by the financial crisis in late 2008, the leaders' level G-20 is trying to evolve from crisis committee for the world economy to a real steering group facilitating international economic cooperation. What can and should such a "steering committee" focus on? How important could the concrete gains from cooperation be? How much faster could world growth be? Is there sufficient legitimacy in the G-20 process? How does the G-20 relate to the IMF and the World Bank? How can Australia in 2015, and then Turkey in 2016, chair the process so as to encourage strategic leadership? The East Asian Bureau of Economic Research in the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University and the Global Economy and Development program at the Brookings Institution joined forces in putting together this volume and asked opinion leaders and policymakers from G-20 countries to provide their independent perspectives. Contributors include Colin Bradford (Brookings), Peter Drysdale (Australian National University), Kemal Dervis (Brookings), Andrew Elek (Australian National University), Ross Garnaut (University of Melbourne), Huang Yiping (China Center for Economic Research), Bruce Jones (Brookings), Muneesh Kapur (IMF), Homi Kharas (Brookings), Wonhyuk Lim (Korea Development Institute), Rakesh Mohan (IMF), David Nellor (consultant, Indonesia), Yoshio Okubo (Japan Securities Dealers Association), Mari Pangestu (Republic of Indonesia), Changyong Rhee (former Asian Development Bank), Alok Sheel (Government of India), Mahendra Siregar (Republic of Indonesia), Paola Subacchi (Chatham House, London), Carlos Vegh (Brookings), Guillermo Vuletin (Brookings), and Maria Monica Wihardja (World Bank).

The G20 needs to be bold and pragmatic if it is to deal effectively with the global economy’s big issues. Since its establishment in 1999, the G20 has become a key international forum. But it suffers from inherent design flaws and remains a work in progress. When Australia began its presidency of the 2014 summit in Brisbane, many commentators suggested that Australia’s chairing of the G20 would reinvigorate it. This timely book looks at what was achieved at the Brisbane Summit and what has happened in its wake. Crucially, it explores what role the G20 could and should play in dealing with such pressing global issues as international taxation, trade, energy and climate change. Expert contributors, many of them former inside players, assess the impact of the summit in the context of the year’s broader geopolitical challenges, including Russia’s temporary expulsion from the G8 and the failure of the US to ratify its governance reforms to the IMF. Taking stock, contributors question the effectiveness of the G20, and identify the reforms that are needed if it is to offer strong leadership in an integrated global economy. Together they ask, what is the future of the G20 and other ‘Gs’?

Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject Economics - Finance, grade: 1,3, University of Applied Sciences Mainz, language: English, abstract: At the beginning of this seminar paper, a background of the G20 with a brief historical and technical explanation of the group will be given followed by a chapter on the emergence of the group several years after its formation. The groups’ distinctive summit diplomacy will be explained before examining more closely the G20 agenda and its topics and outcomes. A critical reflection on the G20 will subsequently be expounded before giving a conclusion on the principal results. In the wake of the financial crisis in 2008, the G20 has developed to a primary multilateral forum. The G20 comprising developing, emerging and developed member countries is reflecting the new dynamics in global politics. The constellation of membership gives the G20 a greater representativeness than other groups and organizations. Filling the governance gap during the financial crisis, the group has proven itself as successfully acting as crisis committee when managing the global financial and economic crisis. Integral characteristics of its working framework are the “summit diplomacy” and the agenda politic. Its summits as part of a new diplomacy aim to reach a consensus within an informal forum instead of forcing a binding agreement in a formal forum . The G20 agenda has broadened over the years of its existence. From focusing on financial regulation in the course of the financial crisis, the group widened its agenda ranging from economic growth, trade to climate change. The transformation process of turning from a crisis committee into a permanent steering committee has revealed several issues and critics the G20 has to confront with.
