Taking cues from works by Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo, and Matisse, pastry chef Caitlin Freeman, of Miette bakery and Blue Bottle Coffee fame, creates a collection of uniquely delicious dessert recipes (with step-by-step assembly guides) that give readers all they need to make their own edible masterpieces. From a fudge pop based on an Ellsworth Kelly sculpture to a pristinely segmented cake fashioned after Mondrian’s well-known composition, this collection of uniquely delicious recipes for cookies, parfait, gelées, ice pops, ice cream, cakes, and inventive drinks has everything you need to astound friends, family, and guests with your own edible masterpieces. Taking cues from modern art’s most revered artists, these twenty-seven showstopping desserts exhibit the charm and sophistication of works by Andy Warhol, Cindy Sherman, Henri Matisse, Jeff Koons, Roy Lichtenstein, Richard Avedon, Wayne Thiebaud, and more. Featuring an image of the original artwork alongside a museum curator’s perspective on the original piece and detailed, easy-to-follow directions (with step-by-step assembly guides adapted for home bakers), Modern Art Desserts will inspire a kitchen gallery of stunning treats.

As pointed out in my last two publications, no comprehensive study has been undertaken about the American Learned Men and Women with Czechoslovak roots. The aim of this work is to correct this glaring deficiency, with the focus on immigration from the period of mass migration and beyond, irrespective whether they were born in their European ancestral homes or whether they have descended from them. Whereas in the two mentioned monographs, the emphasis has been on scholars and social and natural scientists; and men and women in medicine, applied sciences and engineering, respectively, the present compendium deals with notable Americans of Czechoslovak ancestry in arts and letters, and in education. With respect to women, although most professional fields were closed to them through much of the nineteenth century, the area of arts and letters was opened to them, as noted earlier and as this compendium authenticates.

Victor D Cartagena written by Victor D. Cartagena and has been published by AMZ Kindle Direct Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-02-14 with Antiques & Collectibles categories.

In 1985, Cartagena arrived in San Francisco at 19, escaping El Salvador's civil war. He received scholarships from the California Art Council and the Kala Art Institute, becoming a respected member of the art community. Drawing from over 10,500 passport photos acquired in the 1980s, Cartagena's work reflects the faces of Salvadorians seeking asylum during the civil war. His installations, paintings, and video-based artworks explore the plight of immigrants, using life-sized images and creative mediums. One series involves enlarging black and white images to life-size, attached to sticks and leaned against gallery walls. In another, Cartagena uses photo negatives of asylum seekers placed in used tea bags, drawing parallels to low-paid immigrant laborers. Further artistic expressions involve negatives in gelatin pill containers inside glass bottles, symbolizing violence and economic subjugation in El Salvador. Cartagena, influenced by daily news and media, combats what he considers the "anatomy" of lies and inequities. Now in Germany, he views this opportunity as a "great challenge" to share his skills and passion, presenting thought-provoking expressions of his political and personal life. Cartagena's warm reception by German colleagues underscores the power of international artistic exchange in fostering understanding and seeking solutions to global challenges. David J. de la Torre, based in San Francisco, continues his interests in American and Latin American contemporary art, with extensive experience in museum and directorial roles over the past forty years.
