The Paleoanthropology Of Eastern Asia written by Christopher J. Bae and has been published by University of Hawaii Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-05-31 with Social Science categories.

Research in human evolution in Asia has long been thought to lag far behind similar research in Africa and Europe. However, the limited dissemination of findings is often to blame, rather than a lack of scholarship. The Paleoanthropology of Eastern Asia attempts to rectify this misconception by synthesizing research on human evolution in eastern Asia into a single authoritative and definitive text. Covering the span of time from more than two million years ago to the end of the last Ice Age 15,000 years ago, this book examines key events, such as the arrival of the earliest hominins in eastern Asia and the evolution and interaction of various hominin species, including Homo erectus, Homo sapiens, and and a few more in between. While fossils reveal what these hominins may have looked like, the rich Paleolithic archaeological record yields insights into their behavior: Hand axes have been found in eastern Asia where they were previously believed to have been absent. Watercraft was used by foragers as early as 40,000 years ago to voyage to the Japanese archipelago. In Indonesia, cave art paintings older than those from the Lascaux caves in France have been reported. Such new and important discoveries continue to emerge. Providing comprehensive coverage of paleoanthropological research in eastern Asia—from the groundbreaking finds in a cave near Beijing in the early twentieth century to the discovery and identification of new human species during the twenty-first century—this book will captivate anyone interested in the human evolutionary record.

The Donbas Conflict In Ukraine written by Daria Platonova and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-27 with Social Science categories.

This book examines why, when the conflict in eastern Ukraine began in 2014, fighting broke out in the Donets’k region, whereas it did not in Kharkiv city, despite the city, like the Donets’k region, being geographically proximate to Russia and similar in ethnic and linguistic make up. Based on extensive original research, the book argues that a key factor was the nature and behaviour of local elites, with those in Kharkiv having diffuse ties to the centre and therefore being more capable of adapting to sudden, profound regime change at the centre, whereas the elites in the Donets’k region had much more concentrated ties to the centre, were dependent on one network, and therefore were much less able to cope with change. The book thereby demonstrates how crucial for Ukraine are patronal politics, patronage networks, and informal centre-region relations, and that it was these local political circumstances, rather than Russia, which brought about the conflict.

When an English Earl opens a forgotten room in his stately home - a room that has been locked since 1937 - he discovers a connection to his mother's tragic disappearance and re-awakens a decades-old conspiracy against his family. Vengeful former servants have him in their sights, but it soon becomes clear that their agenda reaches far beyond the aristocrat and his forebears. As he unravels the connections between a lost Dali painting found in a Spanish cave, a time capsule buried at Flushing Meadows and his grandmother's friendship with Hitler's lover Unity Mitford, the Earl realises he has just hours to save millions from the horrifying true purpose of the conspirators.

Local Traditional Knowledge In Its Urban Context written by Huier Ma and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-06-14 with Social Science categories.

This book studies the role of Local Traditional Knowledge (LTK) during the cultural preservation of an ethnic Chinese city, Dali, from the perspective of Bai minorities. With ethnic minorities as its central focus, mixed research methods are employed here to ensure the reliability and validity of residents’ perceptions. The findings of the book provide empirical evidence of the cultural process that has been reshaping Dali’s urban landscape. In particular, this study captures the dynamics and complexities of integrating LTK during rapid urbanization. By delineating the urban-rural difference, it develops a better understanding of how urbanization influences the transformation of cultural traditions and the built environment. Potential solutions to cultural preservation are also explored, alongside a discussion on the implementation of an inclusive urban governance. This book presents new knowledge beneficial to scholars, practitioners and policymakers, and will serve as a good reference for further similar studies.
