Der 21. Deutsche Soziologentag fand vom 13.-16.0ktober 1982 in Bamberg statt. Der vorliegende Band dokumentiert die - beit der Sektionen und Ad-hoc-Gruppen. "Sektionen" sind innerhalb der Deutschen Gesellschaft fUr Soziologie langerfristig institutionalisierte Arbeitszusammenhange, die sich mit jeweiligen "Bereichssoziologien" beschaftigen. "Ad-hoc-Gruppen" sind von einem oder mehreren Interessenten zu einem bestimmten Thema initiierte Arbeitskreise, die zunachst nur im Rahmen eines Soziologentages stattfinden. Das schlieBt nicht aus, daB die dort begonnene Zusammenarbeit fortgesetzt wird, eventuell auch auf einem folgenden Soziologentag. Die Referenten der Sektionen und Ad-hoc-Gruppen wurden von uns als Herausgebern gebeten, ca. flinfseitige Zusammenfassungen ihrer Beitrage anzufertigen. Es ist uns gelungen, diese Zusammenfassungen fUr nahezu alle Referate zu erhalten. FUr die damit verbundenen Bemlihungen danken wir allen Autoren. Damit spiegelt der vorliegende Band, neben dem "Verhandlungsband", der gesondert erscheint, die Bandbreite und Vielfalt gegenwartiger soziologischer Arbeit in der Bundesrepublik. Die Reihenfolge der Darstellungen folgt dem Programm des Soziologentages; die interne Gliederung der Sektions- und Ad-hocGruppenarbeit wurde zumeist von den Sektions- bzw. Ad-hoc-Gruppensprechern vorgeschlagen. Die Vielzahl und Vielfalt der Beitrage, sicherlich nicht selten auch ihre notwendige Klirze, wird bei den Lesern haufig ein Bedlirfnis nach weiteren Informationen tiber einzelne Arbeiten oder auch die gesamte Arbeit der Sektion oder Ad-hoc-Gruppe hervorrufen. Zur Ermoglichung einer solchen Kommunikation haben wir im Anhang ein Verzeichnis der Namen und Anschriften aller Sektions- und Ad-hoc-Gruppensprecher angefligt

Christoph Henning writes a concise history of misreadings of Marx in the 20th century. Focussing on German philosophy from Heidegger to Habermas, he also addresses the influence of Rawls and Neopragmatism, subsequently scrutinizing a previous history of Marx-interpretations that had served as the premises upon which these later works were based. Henning sketches a historical trajectory in which a theory of socialist politics enters the fields of economics, sociology, critical theory and theology, before finally – overloaded with intellectually dead freight – entering into philosophy. In so doing, he takes a hermeneutic approach to how misreadings in a specific field proliferate into further misreadings across a variety of fields, leading to an accumulation of questionable preconceptions. This book is a translation of Aziz al-Azmeh's seminal work Al-'Ilmaniya min mandhur mukhtalif that was first published in Beirut in 1992. Both celebrated and criticised for its reflections on Arab secularisation and secularism in the modern history of the Arab World, it is the only study to date to approach its subject as a set of historical changes which affected the regulation of the social, political and cultural order, and which permeated the concrete workings of society, rather than as an ideological discussion framed from the outset by the assumed opposition between Islam and secularism. The author takes a comprehensive analytical perspective to show that an almost imperceptible yet real, multi-faceted and objective secularising process has been underway in the Arab world since the 1850s. The early onset was the result of adapting to systemic novelties introduced at the time and a reaction to the perceived European advance and local retardation. The need for meaningful reform, and the actions taken in order to put in place a new organisation of state and society based on modern organisational and educational criteria, rather than older, religious traditions, stemmed from the perceived weakness of Arab polities and from an internal drive to overcome this situation. The book follows these themes into the close of the 20th century, marked with the rise of Islamism. A preface to the English translation takes a retrospective look at the theme from the vantage point of social, political and intellectual issues of relevance today.

Der 22. Deutsche Soziologentag fand vom 9. bis 12. Oktober 1984 in Dortmund statt. Sein Thema lautete: "Soziologie und gesellschaftliche Entwicklung". Der vorliegende Band dokumentiert die Arbeit der Sektionen und der Ad-hoc-Gruppen. "Sektionen" sind innerhalb der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Soziologie langfristig institutionali sierte Arbeitszusammenhänge, die sich mit jeweiligen "Bereichssoziologien" beschäftigen. "Ad hoc-Gruppen" sind von einem oder mehreren Interessenten zu einem bestimmten Thema initi ierte Arbeitskreise, die zunächst nur im Rahmen eines Soziologentages stattfinden, u.U. aber auch danach noch weiter zusammenarbeiten und eventuell auf einem folgenden Soziologentag wieder vertreten sind. Die Referenten der Sektionen und Ad-hoc-Gruppen wurden vom Herausgeber gebeten, maximal fünfseitige Kurzfassungen ihrer Beiträge anzufertigen. Ich danke allen Autoren, daß sie es ermöglicht haben, eine nahezu vollständige Dokumentation der Sektions- und Ad-hoc Gruppen-Arbeit des Soziologentages vorzulegen. Der Band gibt zugleich einen Eindruck von der Vielfalt und Bandbreite der gegenwärtigen soziologischen Arbeit in der Bundesrepublik Deutsch land, wobei die Beiträge aus Nachbarländern eine Bereicherung darstellen. Danken muß ich den Autoren auch für ihr Verständnis, wenn ich aufgrund der großen Fülle von Beiträgen und des damit verbundenen Umstandes, alles setzen lassen zu müssen, in etlichen Fällen rigide um Einhaltung des vorgegebenen Umfanglimits nachsuchen mußte. In einigen Fällen konnte ich die überschreitung des Limits dulden, weil andere Beiträge ausfielen oder aufgrund von Absprachen unter den Autoren entsprechend gekürzt wurden. Daß die an nähernd 1.400 Seiten Manuskrfpt gesetzt werden konnten, wurde durch einen Zuschuß der Stadt Dortmund ermöglicht, für den ich auch an dieser Stelle danken möchte.
