Welcome to the3 Books To Knowseries, our idea is to help readers learn about fascinating topics through three essential and relevant books. These carefully selected works can be fiction, non-fiction, historical documents or even biographies. We will always select for you three great works to instigate your mind, this time the topic is:Dystopian Fiction. Samuel Butler used his tale, Erewhon, to satirize the injustices of Victorian England through a utopian society in which all customs and social laws were the exact opposite of what they were in England. This anti-utopian novel, like many experimental Victorian literary works, resists easy categorization. The Sleeper Awakes is a novel by H. G. Wells, about a man who sleeps for two hundred and three years, waking up in a completely transformed London where he has become the richest man in the world. The main character awakes to see his dreams realised, and the future revealed to him in all its horrors and malformities. The book has elements explored later both in Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. The Iron Heel is a novel by Jack London, first published in 1907. Generally considered to be "the earliest of the modern dystopian" fiction, it chronicles the rise of an oligarchic tyranny in the United States. A forerunner of soft science fiction novels and stories of the 1960s and '70s, the book stresses future changes in society and politics while paying much less attention to technological changes. The book is unusual among the literature of the time in being a first-person narrative of a woman protagonist written by a man. This is one of many books in the series 3 Books To Know. If you liked this book, look for the other titles in the series, we are sure you will like some of the topics.

A sharp and witty post-apocalyptic high school comedy drama Sarabeth Lewis knows that anyone who's anyone will be at Teena McAuley's party this weekend. As it turns out, anyone who isn't anyone will end up in Teena's basement. This will include Sarabeth. But come the morning after, they're actually pretty glad of that fact... You know it's going to be a bad day when you emerge from a party you're not supposed to have been invited to in the first place to find the house destroyed and almost everyone you know in bits. Quite literally, in Sarabeth's case. Whilst she and the rest of the school's outcasts have been locked in the basement, the world appears to have ended - Sarabeth, Leo, Evan and Teena (who accidentally locked herself in the basement too...) have unwittingly become survivors of an alien invasion. Now they'll have to put their differences aside for long enough to save their town, themselves and quite possibly the world - and use everything they've got (including glittery face-paint) to squish some serious alien butt.

Perry and Lester invent things: seashell robots that make toast, Boogie Woogie Elmo dolls that drive cars. They also invent entirely new economic systems. When Kodak and Duracell are broken up for parts by sharp venture capitalists, Perry and Lester help to invent the "New Work," a New Deal for the technological era. Barefoot bankers cross the nation, microinvesting in high-tech communal mini-startups. Together, they transform the nation and blogger Andrea Fleeks is there to document it. Then it slides into collapse. The New Work bust puts the dot-bomb to shame. Perry and Lester build a network of interactive rides in abandoned Walmarts across the land. As their rides gain in popularity, a rogue Disney executive engineers a savage attack on the rides by convincing the police that their 3D printers are being used to make AK-47s. Lawsuits multiply as venture capitalists take on a new investment strategy: backing litigation against companies like Disney. Lester and Perry's friendship falls to pieces when Lester gets the fatkins treatment, which turns him into a sybaritic gigolo. Then things get really interesting. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

SCIENCE AND SORCERY DO NOT MIX—EXCEPT ON GRAMARYE Skeptical, cynical Rod Gallowglass is a spacefaring man of science who does not believe in magic. He's also an operative of the agency SCENT, tasked with finding lost colony planets, then guiding them toward democracy and eventual membership in the galactic community. But when he stumbles across the strange new planet Gramarye, he's shocked to discover a medieval society full of witches and warlocks, elves and monsters. How is it even possible? Worse, Rod's advanced technology quickly gets him labeled a warlock, despite his constant denials. Moreover, the Kingdom is in political turmoil, with a young girl-queen on the brink of civil war with her rebellious lords. Rod slowly discovers off-world organizations are behind the unrest, trying to subtly corrupt Gramarye away from democratic rule. His mission is threatened at every turn by fascists, anarchists, and double-dealing royalists playing vicious political power games for the future of the most unique—and perhaps most important—planet in the galaxy. Aided only by a coven of teenage witches, a ragtag army of beggars, and his epileptic robot horse Fess, Rod decides the only way to thwart these destructive influences—both native and off-planet—is for him to become a part of the local fabric and lead Gramarye as one of their own. But to do so, Rod Gallowglass must put aside his own convictions and beliefs, and become a warlock, in spite of himself.
