Computational Electromagnetism written by Alain Bossavit and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-02-04 with Science categories.

Computational Electromagnetism refers to the modern concept of computer-aided analysis, and design, of virtually all electric devices such as motors, machines, transformers, etc., as well as of the equipment inthe currently booming field of telecommunications, such as antennas, radars, etc. The present book is uniquely written to enable the reader-- be it a student, a scientist, or a practitioner-- to successfully perform important simulation techniques and to design efficient computer software for electromagnetic device analysis. Numerous illustrations, solved exercises, original ideas, and an extensive and up-to-date bibliography make it a valuable reference for both experts and beginners in the field. A researcher and practitioner will find in it information rarely available in other sources, such as on symmetry, bilateral error bounds by complimentarity, edge and face elements, treatment of infinite domains, etc. At the same time, the book is a useful teaching tool for courses in computational techniques in certain fields of physics and electrical engineering. As a self-contained text, it presents an extensive coverage of the most important concepts from Maxwells equations to computer-solvable algebraic systems-- for both static, quasi-static, and harmonic high-frequency problems. Benefits To the Engineer A sound background necessary not only to understand the principles behind variational methods and finite elements, but also to design pertinent and well-structured software. To the Specialist in Numerical Modeling The book offers new perspectives of practical importance on classical issues: the underlying symmetry of Maxwell equations, their interaction with other fields of physics in real-life modeling, the benefits of edge and face elements, approaches to error analysis, and "complementarity." To the Teacher An expository strategy that will allow you to guide the student along a safe and easy route through otherwise difficult concepts: weak formulations and their relation to fundamental conservation principles of physics, functional spaces, Hilbert spaces, approximation principles, finite elements, and algorithms for solving linear systems. At a higher level, the book provides a concise and self-contained introduction to edge elements and their application to mathematical modeling of the basic electromagnetic phenomena, and static problems, such as eddy-current problems and microwaves in cavities. To the Student Solved exercises, with "hint" and "full solution" sections, will both test and enhance the understanding of the material. Numerous illustrations will help in grasping difficult mathematical concepts.

Due to a huge concentration of electromagnetic fields and eddy currents, large power equipment and systems are prone to crushing forces, overheating, and overloading. Luckily, power failures due to disturbances like these can be predicted and/or prevented. Based on the success of internationally acclaimed computer programs, such as the authors’ own RNM-3D, Engineering Electrodynamics: Electric Machine, Transformer, and Power Equipment Design explains how to implement industry-proven modeling and design techniques to solve complex electromagnetic phenomena. Considering recent progress in magnetic and superconducting materials as well as modern methods of mechatronics and computer science, this theory- and application-driven book: Analyzes materials structure and 3D fields, taking into account magnetic and thermal nonlinearities Supplies necessary physical insight for the creation of electromagnetic and electromechanical high power equipment models Describes parameters for electromagnetic calculation of the structural parts of transformers, electric machines, apparatuses, and other electrical equipment Covers power frequency 50-60 Hz (worldwide and US) equipment applications Includes examples, case studies, and homework problems Engineering Electrodynamics: Electric Machine, Transformer, and Power Equipment Design provides engineers, students, and academia with a thorough understanding of the physics, principles, modeling, and design of contemporary industrial devices.

During the last decade a new generation of software tools has evolved in computational electromagnetics. Both analyti cal methods and particularly numerical techniques have improved considerably, leading to an extended range of capabilities and an increased applicability of both dedicated and general purpose computer codes. It is the intention of this volume to review the state of the art in electromagnetic analysis and design, and to describe the fundamentals and the advances in theoreti cal/numerical approaches coupled with practical solutions for static and time-dependent fields. In this context, the book illustrates the effectiveness of numerical techniques and associated computer codes in solving real electromagnetic field problems. In addition, it demonstrates the usefulness of modern codes for the analysis of many industrial practical cases. In particular, solutions of magnetostatic and magnetodynamic problems applied to electrical machines, induction heating, non destructive testing, fusion reactor technology and other industrial are presented and discussed. The present volume reflects and combines the lectures which are organized in the frame of the Eurocourse programme at JRC Ispra under the sponsorship of the Institute for Sys tems Engineering and Informatics (ISEI). It is hoped that in this context the Institute and particularly the Systems Engineering & Reliability (SER) Division can play a stimulating role in sponsoring and promoting the diffusion of knowledge in novel areas of computer and information science.
