World War II lasted six years. That's 2,194 days. What happened in those six years? In this new "diary," author Richard Binder takes a radical new approach to telling the story of the worst conflict humanity has ever experienced. Instead of trying to cover everything, he relates the happenings of just 366 days, the length of a single year. Choosing events great and small from the beginning of the war to its bitter end, he gives you a fascinating and sometimes shocking look at things you know from your high-school history and things you may never have heard of.

The Presidentialization Of Japanese Politics written by Masahiro Iwasaki and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-04-14 with Social Science categories.

Are we seeing the presidentialization of politics in Japan? Certainly, many recent prime ministers have demonstrated powerful leadership, notably Junichiro Koizumi and Shinzo Abe. While the phenomenon of presidentialization has been much discussed for years, the Japanese case has not received much attention in the English language. Iwasaki analyses the state of Japanese politics using the established analytical framework of presidentialization – looking at leadership power resources, leadership autonomy, and the personalization of the electoral process – and assesses the factors that have been claimed to lead to similar changes in other countries. He argues that there are also unique variables that contribute to the presidentialization of Japanese politics. Most notably, the introduction of public subsidies to political parties and electoral reform in 1994. A valuable contribution to the global scholarship on presidentialization, which will be of particular interest to scholars of Japanese politics.

This wide-ranging naval history features rare wartime battleship images combined with thrilling first person accounts from servicemen. During the Second World War, big-gun battleships represented the ultimate power of the world’s greatest navies. In this book, veteran battleship crew members describe their unforgettable experiences aboard these iconic vessels. Here are the vivid recollections of a Royal Navy officer at Jutland; tales of the loss of the German warship Scharnhorst in the arctic; combat experience inside a sixteen-inch gun turret aboard an Iowa-class battleship during the Gulf War; and many others. Included too is the story of the great German battleship Bismarck, which sank the pride of the British fleet; the story of HMS Hood; and that of the USS Missouri,on whose deck the final surrender document of the Second World War was signed. The text is combined with a compelling selection of historic images representing the era of the great battleships from the early years through the First and Second World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, and the preservation of a handful of these vessels as museum pieces today.
