Serotonin Dopamine Interaction Experimental Evidence And Therapeutic Relevance written by Giuseppe Di Giovanni and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-11-11 with Medical categories.
This book provides a unique and timely multidisciplinary synthesis of our current knowledge of the anatomy, pharmacology, physiology and behavioral data of the serotonin (5-HT)-dopamine (DA) interactions. Central serotonergic and dopaminergic systems play a critical role in the regulation of normal and abnormal behaviors. Moreover, recent evidence suggests that the dysfunction of the DA and 5-HT neurotransmitter systems contribute to various mental disorders including depression, schizophrenia, drug addiction and Parkinson's disease. This extremely important topic is of wide interest within the scientific community, with relevance not only to specialists but also to general practitioners and students. The book provides a valuable contribution to the debate on new pharmacological approaches for several psychopathological states, with contributions from expert neuroscientists and pharmacologists who comprehensively survey the most significant currently active areas of dopamine/serotonin interactions. * Provides an understanding of the interaction between Serotonin and Dopamine. * Appeals equally to specialists, general practitioners, students and researchers. * Contributes to the debate on new pharmacological approaches to several psychopathological states * Gives a comprehensive anatomical description plus the physiology and pharmacology of dopaminergic and serotonergic systems * Singles out neuropsychiatric and suggests new therapeutic approaches.

Handbook Of The Behavioral Neurobiology Of Serotonin written by Christian Peter Müller and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Medical categories.
Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, often cited as 5-HT) is one of the major excitatory neurotransmitters, and the serotonergic system is one of the best studied and understood transmitter systems. It is crucially involved in the organization of virtually all behaviours and in the regulation of emotion and mood, and pathological alterations in the serotonergic system underlie behaviour and psychiatric conditions (among a host of very successful drugs targeting the serotoninergic system are Prozac and Zoloft). This is the first truly integrated handbook providing a broad overview over the many face

A comprehensive, state-of-the-art review of our current understanding of the molecular and structural biology of 5-HT receptors and their potential use for drug discovery. The authors describe the anatomical, cellular, and subcellular distribution of 5-HT receptors and demonstrate a powerful approach to elucidating their physiological role using knockout mice in which the 5-HT receptors were deleted. They also review our understanding of the physiological role(s) of 5-HT receptors based mainly on studies performed in genetically engineered mice. Highlights include discussions of the behavioral phenotypes of 5-HT receptor knockout animals, the molecular biology and pharmacology of 5-HT receptors, and insights into the complexity of 5-HT receptor signal transduction.

Application And Evaluation Of Acupuncture In The Treatment Of Neurological Diseases written by Liming Lu and has been published by Frontiers Media SA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-06-21 with Medical categories.
Neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, are an important cause of disability and death worldwide and pose a serious burden on the global health system over the past 30 years. Acupuncture, as the most widely used traditional Chinese medicine therapy in the world, has been widely used in 183 countries and regions. Acupuncture can treat more than 300 kinds of diseases, especially for neurological diseases. Due to the unique advantages of acupuncture such as good therapeutic effect and low side effects, many researchers have conducted extensive clinical studies on the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture in the treatment of neurological diseases, laying a foundation for the practicability and scientific vigor of this complementary and alternative therapeutic approach. There are still many problems unanswered in the current clinical research on acupuncture for the treatment of neurological diseases: First of all, clinical research is lagging behind due to the lack of emphasis on modern advanced methods and analytical techniques (e.g., artificial intelligence, omics analysis, bioinformatics analysis, data mining) and multidisciplinary integration process. Secondly, the quality of reports on most clinical studies of acupuncture treatment for neurological diseases is extremely low. Most clinical studies have not adopted standardized methodological evaluations, authoritative disease diagnosis standards, and efficacy evaluation standards. The lack of compliance regulations and strict study design reduces the accuracy and authenticity of the research. Thirdly, there is a lack of integrated assessment of the distribution of evidence for acupuncture treatment of neurological diseases. Therefore, strictly designed clinical research and in depth and systematic analysis method are currently needed to provide high-quality evidence for acupuncture treatment of neurological diseases. In this Research Topic, we hope to further understand the role of acupuncture in the treatment of neurological diseases through clinical research and secondary research. The range of acupuncture includes manual acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, body needling, auricular acupuncture, scalp acupuncture, laser acupuncture and acupressure, etc. Neurological diseases include stroke, meningitis, encephalitis, tetanus, Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, migraine, tense-type headaches, headaches from drug overuse, and others.
