The third volume of the influential WWRF Book of Visions of research and trends in mobile communications has been fully updated. It includes three new chapters on flexible spectrum use, ultra-broadband convergent home-area networks, and the system concept. Visions from manufacturers, network operators, research institutes and academia from all over world are captured by the WWRF in one comprehensive single point of reference. Technologies for the Wireless Future, Volume 3 describes the expectations and requirements of a user in the ‘future wireless world’ between 2010 and 2017. This will enable readers to prioritise research topics based on the provision of cost-effective solutions. This book is ideal for researchers from both academia and industry, as well as engineers, managers, strategists, and regulators. WWRF has become highly influential on the future of wireless communication. You can see the evidence already, as many of the concepts described in the very first Book of Vision have been adopted in today’s wireless implementations. The organization brings together the long-range views of academia with the practical constraints and requirements of industry. This is a powerful combination. Mark Pecen, Vice President, Research In Motion Limited The WWRF Book of Vision series of books are an invaluable source of information for key thoughts and technology developments in wireless and mobile communication. The comprehensiveness and diversified nature of its research reports and results can prove to be a very useful tool in planning and developing the next generation network and services. Bill Huang, General Manager, China Mobile Research As mobile broadband becomes part of our daily lives, in the same way that mobile telephony has done, and helps us to support important issues such as health care, education and many other priorities, WWRF is again exploring the options for mobile and wireless systems in its' third edition of the Book of Visions. Earlier versions have helped to reach global consensus on research objectives, reduce investment risk and generate critical mass in research efforts. The third book of visions provides key insights into the international academic and commercial discussion on tomorrows' hot topics in mobile research! Recent developments such as the invention of powerful turbo-decoding and irregular designs, together with the increase in the number of potential applications to multimedia signal compression, have increased the importance of variable length coding (VLC). Providing insights into the very latest research, the authors examine the design of diverse near-capacity VLC codes in the context of wireless telecommunications. The book commences with an introduction to Information Theory, followed by a discussion of Regular as well as Irregular Variable Length Coding and their applications in joint source and channel coding. Near-capacity designs are created using Extrinsic Information Transfer (EXIT) chart analysis. The latest techniques are discussed, outlining radical concepts such as Genetic Algorithm (GA) aided construction of diverse VLC codes. The book concludes with two chapters on VLC-based space-time transceivers as well as on frequency-hopping assisted schemes, followed by suggestions for future work on the topic. Surveys the historic evolution and development of VLCs Discusses the very latest research into VLC codes Introduces the novel concept of Irregular VLCs and their application in joint-source and channel coding

Modern Coding Theory written by Tom Richardson and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-03-17 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Having trouble deciding which coding scheme to employ, how to design a new scheme, or how to improve an existing system? This summary of the state-of-the-art in iterative coding makes this decision more straightforward. With emphasis on the underlying theory, techniques to analyse and design practical iterative coding systems are presented. Using Gallager's original ensemble of LDPC codes, the basic concepts are extended for several general codes, including the practically important class of turbo codes. The simplicity of the binary erasure channel is exploited to develop analytical techniques and intuition, which are then applied to general channel models. A chapter on factor graphs helps to unify the important topics of information theory, coding and communication theory. Covering the most recent advances, this text is ideal for graduate students in electrical engineering and computer science, and practitioners. Additional resources, including instructor's solutions and figures, available online: www.cambridge.org/9780521852296.

(Preliminary): The Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) digital transmission technique has several advantages in broadcast and mobile communications applications. The main objective of this book is to give a good insight into these efforts, and provide the reader with a comprehensive overview of the scientific progress which was achieved in the last decade. Besides topics of the physical layer, such as coding, modulation and non-linearities, a special emphasis is put on system aspects and concepts, in particular regarding cellular networks and using multiple antenna techniques. The work extensively addresses challenges of link adaptation, adaptive resource allocation and interference mitigation in such systems. Moreover, the domain of cross-layer design, i.e. the combination of physical layer aspects and issues of higher layers, are considered in detail. These results will facilitate and stimulate further innovation and development in the design of modern communication systems, based on the powerful OFDM transmission technique.
