O bebi sem parcimônia e não me quedou gosto de quero mais, seu conteúdo me satisfez plenamente porque me apresentou uma nova perspectiva e me conduziu a novas reflexões sobre tão instigante tema. Durango Duarte acertou em cheio ao escolhe-lo, quando associou sua história de vida ao período “revolucionário”. Filho de militar do Exército, passou sua infância e adolescência ouvindo sobre o Regime e sendo forjado a defender a “revolução” de 1964. Por ironia das voltas que a vida nos regala, viu o improvável: seu pai, um militar disciplinado e radical, a cabalar votos para a oposição. Em razão da transferência do seu genitor – expediente comum na vida de um militar –, desembarcou em Manaus, pela primeira vez, em 1975. Aqui, encontrou uma cidade pacata, sem qualquer registro de manifestação popular ou contraposição ao Regime. Foi aluno do Colégio Militar e, como tal, sonhava ser militar. Sua percepção inocente era de que vivia num regime democrático. O delicado estado de saúde de sua mãe fez com que ele voltasse ao Rio Grande do Sul. Lá viveu entre 1978 e 1982, onde concluiu seus estudos no Colégio Militar e ingressou na vida universitária. Ainda no Colégio Militar, começou a avaliar o cenário nacional sob um novo cristal. As características da política dos pampas gaúchos carregavam sentimentos partidários: de um lado Jango, de outro, Leonel Brizola. A anistia e a volta dos anistiados era tema recorrente no ido ano de 1979 e Porto Alegre recebia a visita de Luís Carlos Prestes. A capital gaúcha era uma cidade que, como São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro, respirava política. Definitivamente sua cabeça era outra. Um dia, assistiu, ainda que não premeditadamente, a manifestação ocorrida quando o general Jorge Rafael Videla, presidente da Argentina, esteve em Porto Alegre; ali, testemunhou o bárbaro espancamento de estudantes e manifestantes, viu a correria e bombas de gás lacrimogêneo serem lançadas para dispersão. Aquilo o impactou. Era a materialização dos conceitos de repressão e resistência que povoavam e avolumavam os seus já inevitáveis questionamentos. No colégio, percebia alguns colegas, filhos de civis, a discutirem essa questão, não sob o viés esquerdista, mas sob o olhar da inquietude, relativamente aos acontecimentos por que passava o País: discussão sobre os eventuais cassados, os comunistas, a pacificação do Brasil, aquela coisa de que os militares tiraram o País do atraso, sobretudo na área das telecomunicações e nas obras de engenharia de vulto, como a Transamazônica, hidrelétricas de Itaipu e Tucuruí e a ponte Rio-Niterói. Foi na fase acadêmica na PUC (Pontifícia Universidade Católica) de Porto Alegre que teve o primeiro contato com a militância estudantil. Também foi lá que o “vírus”, definitivamente, nele se instalou e ali decidiu pender para a esquerda e lutar pela redemocratização brasileira. Em julho de 1982, novamente em Manaus, como estudante universitário, engajou-se na política partidária, tendo ocupado diversos cargos de destaque no Partido Comunista do Brasil, o PC do B. Durango Duarte é um observador privilegiado, um raro caso de íntima convivência com os bastidores da política amazonense. São dezoito eleições contabilizadas, o que lhe confere um handicap sem par. Essa condição única lhe permite assumir as vezes de pesquisador, analista, cientista e marqueteiro político, que testemunhou mudanças surpreendentes nos rumos das eleições e dos destinos, tanto municipais quanto estaduais. E o 61 dias em 1964 traz isso: mudanças e resultados diários, de conformidade com a dinâmica que a política se move. Esta obra é, portanto, muito mais que uma merecida homenagem que a editora Mídia Ponto Comm, empresa de propriedade do Durango, presta aos articulistas antes citados. É um resgate, uma contribuição literária necessária, um filme que constantemente passa nas cabeças de uma geração que viveu aqueles anos pretéritos. This volume concludes the coverage of silicon carbide, SiC, begun in "Silicon" Supplement Volume B 2, 1984, subtitled "Silicon Carbide - Part I". Part I described the physical properties of SiC, SiC diodes, molecular species in the SiC-C gas phase, and amorphous silicon-carbon alloys. The current Part II ("Silicon" Supplement Volume B 3,1986) covers in its initial chapter the Si-C phase diagram and in the final chapters the higher order systems of Si and C with additional elements through boron, arranged according to the Gmelin system. In between some 95% of the volume focusses on SiC, beginning with its natural occurrence, preparation and formation, and purification, continuing with its chemical analysis, manufacture of special ized forms, electrochemistry, and chemical reactions, and concluding with descriptions of its myriad applications. The final applications section covering electronic devices also describes similar applications of the amorphous Si-C alloys. The successive chapters in this volume are often closely interrelated, since it is often necessary to synthesize SiC directly in a form in which it will be applied. SiC cannot be melted and cast, nor rolled nor drawn, nor is it easily electroplated or sintered or purified. Silicon carbide first became known to man when E. G. Acheson in 1891 used an electric current to heat a mixture of clay and carbon to extremely high temperatures.
