In this national bestseller, David A. Robertson “weaves an engrossing and unforgettable story with the precision of a historian and the colour of a true Indigenous storyteller." (Rosanna Deerchild) 7 Generations: A Plains Cree Saga is an epic, four-part graphic novel. Illustrated in vivid colour, the story follows one Indigenous family over three centuries and seven generations. This compiled edition was originally published as a series of four graphic novels: Stone, Scars, Ends/Begins, and The Pact. Stone introduces Edwin, a young man who must discover his family’s past if he is to have any future. Edwin learns of his ancestor Stone, a young Plains Cree man, who came of age in the early 19th century. When his older brother is tragically killed during a Blackfoot raid, Stone, the best shot and rider in his encampment, must overcome his grief to avenge his brother’s death. In Scars, the story of White Cloud, Edwin's ancestor, is set against the smallpox epidemic of 1870-1871. After witnessing the death of his family one by one, White Cloud must summon the strength to find a new home and deliver himself from the terrible disease. In Ends/Begins, readers learn about the story of Edwin’s father, and his experiences in a residential school. In 1964, two brothers are taken from the warm and loving care of their grandparents, and spirited away to a residential school. When older brother James discovers the anguish that his brother is living under, it leads to unspeakable tragedy. In The Pact, the guilt and loss of James’s residential school experiences follow him into adulthood, and his life spirals out of control. Edwin, mired in his own pain, tries to navigate past the desolation of his fatherless childhood. As James tries to heal himself he begins to realize that, somehow, he must save his son’s life—as well as his own. When father and son finally meet, can they heal their shattered relationship, and themselves, or will it be too late? Sacred Civics written by Jayne Engle and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-05-13 with Social Science categories.

Sacred Civics argues that societal transformation requires that spirituality and sacred values are essential to reimagining patterns of how we live, organize and govern ourselves, determine and distribute wealth, inhabit and design cities, and construct relationships with others and with nature. The book brings together transdisciplinary and global academics, professionals, and activists from a range of backgrounds to question assumptions that are fused deep into the code of how societies operate, and to draw on extraordinary wisdom from ancient Indigenous traditions; to social and political movements like Black Lives Matter, the commons, and wellbeing economies; to technologies for participatory futures where people collaborate to reimagine and change culture. Looking at cities and human settlements as the sites of transformation, the book focuses on values, commons, and wisdom to demonstrate that how we choose to live together, to recognize interdependencies, to build, grow, create, and love—matters. Using multiple methodologies to integrate varied knowledge forms and practices, this truly ground-breaking volume includes contributions from renowned and rising voices. Sacred Civics is a must-read for anyone interested in intersectional discussions on social justice, inclusivity, participatory design, healthy communities, and future cities.

In "The Seven Generations Story: An Incentive to Heal Yourself, Your Family and the Planet," author Rick Broniec explores the long standing Native American ethic of thinking about seven generations into the future and the past when making decisions or healing oneself. Rick, himself part Cherokee, became aware of how powerful this story is by observing how his own family story transformed as he pursued his own healing. Using an engaging mix of deeply moving and authentic stories from his life and from clients he has worked with, along with many exercises designed to bring to light your own 'family story', Rick illustrates the Seven Generations Story and how it has worked to transform his life- and his family over a 30 year period. Rick also shares many valuable and useful healing techniques that have helped him change, heal and grow as a man, father, partner and leader! If you knew that your own healing work affected seven generations of your family in both directions, wouldn't that be a poignant and powerful incentive to do your own work? If you knew that your healing could cause your family's story to change forever- even change your familial DNA- would that add some urgency to your own healing work? Come explore this fascinating and ancient philosophy to find out how you can heal yourself, your family and the planet by doing your own work today in the modern world using modern techniques!
