O trabalho que se segue tem como objeto o integralismo no sertão baiano, face ainda pouco explorada pela historiografia política, tendo em vista que o integralismo é conceituado como movimento predominantemente constituído nos grandes centros urbanos, com pautas antiproletárias, acabando por concentrar seus estudos nessa perspectiva. No entanto, o maior movimento de massas no país na década de 1930 se expandiu para além do Sudeste de onde se originou, e das grandes cidades, articulando-se pelo sertão baiano e ocupando lugares e relações de poder instituídas pelo coronelismo local, tendo que adaptar suas práticas. Tomamos como recorte histórico de pesquisa a cidade de Tucano entre as décadas de 1930 e 1940, para contribuir com as definições acerca do integralismo, introduzindo mais uma colaboração sobre o movimento em sua atuação em terras sertanejas.

History and Truth deals with the epistemological premises and the objectivity of historical truth as well as the social conditioning of historical cognition. Both the problem of the model of cognitive relationship and the problem of truth are discussed in the context of true cognition. Comprised of eight chapters, this book begins with an overview of historians' conflicting interpretations regarding the causes of the French Revolution to highlight the tendency of historians to differ in their visions of the historical process, resulting in different and sometimes even contradictory representations of one and the same fact. The discussion then turns to three models of the process of cognition (the cognitive subject, the object of cognition, and knowledge as the product of the process of cognition), as well as the concept of truth as a philosophical problem. Subsequent chapters focus on two concepts of history, namely, positivism and presentism; The class character of historical cognition; historicism and relativism; and the selection of historical facts. The book also considers why history is continuously written anew before concluding with an assessment of the objectivity of historical truth. The nature of the military institution in Brazil, its relations with civilian governments up to 1964, and its use of power since the coup of that year are examined by Alfred Stepan. Throughout the nineteenth century the idyllic island of Fernando de Noronha, which lies two hundred miles off Brazil's northeastern coast, was home to Brazil's largest forced labor penal colony. In Punishment in Paradise Peter M. Beattie uses Noronha as a case study to understand nineteenth-century Brazil's varied social and cultural values, especially in relation to justice, class, color, civil condition, human rights and labor. As Brazil’s slave population declined after 1850, the use of colonial-era disciplinary practices at Noronha—such as flogging and forced labor—stoked anxieties about human rights and Brazil’s international image. Beattie contends that the treatment of slaves, convicts, and other social categories subject to coercive labor extraction were interconnected and that reforms that benefitted one of these categories made them harder to deny to others. In detailing Noronha's history and the end of slavery as part of an international expansion of human rights, Beattie places Brazil firmly in the purview of Atlantic history.
