Rejoice in Recovery: A 12-Step Faith-Based Program (RNR) is specifically designed for men and women caught in the grip of drug and alcohol addiction. Over the past ten years, this program has been implemented in church and jail-based recovery classes. Stories are one of the most effective strategies for teaching and one of the most powerful ways to learn, When we hear, "Once upon a time...," we lean forward and listen with rapt attention and great anticipation, because we know a story is sure to follow. Jesus, the greatest teacher the world has ever known, consistently used stories as a method of instruction so that people would understand and remember the spiritual truths He was teaching. Like Jesus we too can use stories, His stories, to teach and learn life-lessons. Traditional 12-step programs have a positive tract record in guiding the recovery experience for thousands of people. These programs follow the principles and spiritual values found in the Bible, specifically: The Sermon on the Mount; The Book of James; and 1 Corinthians 13 (Dick B. 2005). Studying the steps, while examining their biblical principles, will guide in discovering why they have been effective and how they can be instructional on our recovery journey. Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) include an abundance of personal recovery stories. Why? True-life experiences teach us, in a way no lecture or essay can, how to make changes in our lives that will positively impact our journey on the road to recovery. RNR incorporates the power of biblical stories with the principles and spiritual values of 12-step programs.

The Twelve Steps And The Sacraments written by Scott Weeman and has been published by Ave Maria Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-10 with Religion categories.

Winner of a 2018 Catholic Press Association Award: Sacraments. (Second Place). In the first book to directly integrate the Twelve Steps with the practice of Catholicism, Scott Weeman, founder and director of Catholic in Recovery, pairs his personal story with compassionate straight talk to show Catholics how to bridge the commonly felt gap between the Higher Power of twelve-step programs and the merciful God that he rediscovered in the heart of the sacraments. Weeman entered sobriety from alcohol and drugs on October 10, 2011, and he's made it his full-time ministry to help others who struggle with various types of addiction to find spiritual wholeness through Catholic in Recovery, an organization he founded and directs. In The Twelve Steps and the Sacraments, Weeman candidly tackles the struggle he and other addicts have with getting to know intimately the unnamed Higher Power of recovery. He shares stories of his compulsion to find a personal relationship with God and how his tentative steps back to the Catholic Church opened new doors of healing and brought him surprising joy as he came to know Christ in the sacraments. Catholics in recovery and those moving toward it, as well as the people who love them will recognize Weeman's story and his spiritual struggle to personally encounter God. He tells us how: Baptism helps you admit powerlessness over an unmanageable problem, face your desperate need for God, and choose to believe in and submit to God’s mercy. Reconciliation affirms and strengthens the hard work of examining your life, admitting wrongs, and making amends. The Eucharist provides ongoing sustenance and draws you to the healing power of Christ. The graces of Confirmation strengthen each person to keep moving forward and to share the good news of recovery and new life in Christ. Weeman's words are boldly challenging and brimming with compassion and through them you will discover inspiration, hope, sage advice, and refreshingly practical help.

One Step written by Dennis Wright and has been published by AuthorHouse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Alcoholism categories.

This book is a biblical approach to the recovery from obsessions. The obsessions can be as minor as fishing too often or as major as full blown addictions to drugs. The point is that Jesus Christ gave us guidelines on how to moderate and on how to be healed when necessary from these obsessions. The outline from Matthew in the New Testament is where Jesus teaches us the format for recovery. It is why he starts with being "poor in spirit" and ends in being persecuted for your beliefs. This simple outline from Matthew 5:1-12 is where basically all recovery programs have their origin, and I have included in the back of the book a chapter titled "The beatitudes and their correlation to the twelve steps." It is the premise of this work to bring clarity to the truth that has always been in God's Word. It is a work that reads well and was a pleasant task to write. I hope you will enjoy as well as benefit from its pages. Thank you for your consideration and for taking the time to read this brief edit. Dennis Wright

Twelve Steps To Spiritual Freedom written by Joanna Thyer and has been published by Loyola Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-02-01 with Religion categories.

The twelve step addiction recovery process often comes in many variations and interpretations; while each variation may focus on different aspects of recovery, they all stem from the groundbreaking work of Bill W. and Dr. Bob Smith, the founders of the organization known as Alcoholics Anonymous. Twelve Steps to Spiritual Freedom: Understanding the Christian Roots of Twelve Step Programs aligns this 20th century construct with its roots in centuries old practices. This sensible approach brings together the deep spiritual tradition of Christianity to complement and support the hands-on, daily work of twelve-step programs. Interspersed with personal experiences, Understanding the Christian Roots of Twelve Step Programs identifies and contextualizes the natural connections between Christian mysticism and the wisdom of twelve step programs and makes this information usable for readers. With her intelligent and pragmatic approach, author Joanna Thyer speaks to those who struggle within twelve step programs and to the counselors, therapists, social workers, and family and friends who support their recovery efforts. Knowing the origins can make the journey through addiction recovery grounded, personal, and rooted in faith.
