Os primeiros capítulos explicam a cidade que se estendeu sobre as linhas de bondes e os serviços de água potável, gás e esgoto expõem também como posteriormente a cidade rompeu sua continuidade com o advento das linhas férreas, estradas e linhas elétricas, até configurar uma cidade segregada, formada por setores independentes entre si, nos quais o elevador, o ferro e os medidores dos serviços domésticos trouxeram os prédios altos e a substituição da casa pelo apartamento. Os capítulos seguintes mostram como os instrumentos urbanísticos atuais desencadearam uma \"orgia\" de depredação do território para incrementar o negócio imobiliário, apoiada também em infraestruturas que permitem a conexão sem proximidade, como a telefonia celular, a televisão e os computadores. No final, é feita uma reflexão sobre o tipo de infraestrutura que precisamos para conseguir uma sociedade mais igualitária, mais respeitosa com a natureza e mais consciente dos seus limites. Apresenta ainda um anexo com a lista e as principais informações sobre mais de quatrocentas personalidades relevantes da história da invenção e construção dos modernos serviços urbanísticos, incluindo também as que foram proeminentes no Brasil. Trata-se dos \"autênticos\" urbanistas, além dos renomados arquitetos que configuram a \"História oficial\".

Na recente história urbana, Palmas é uma nova cidade no meio do Brasil, e atualmente confronta muitas questões que nem mesmo o planejamento urbano pode resolver. Este trabalho identifica a gênese urbana da Vila União, unidade de vizinhanças em Palmas onde o determinismo do plano confronta com formas espontâneas de apropriação, e cria uma nova face na conformação de lugares na cidade planejada.O processo de ocupação construiu um espaço urbano específico, resultando em lugares da urbanidade, evidenciado pelo poder cultural que produz seu contexto urbano. Este é resultado dos limites do projeto urbano, criando uma diversidade de sistemas no traçado da cidade, essencial para determinar a inserção da vida cotidiana na esfera pública do espaço urbano. A hipótese deste trabalho é que a urbanidade ocorre nos limites do projeto urbano e da apropriação cultural. O processo de conformação da cidade resultou em um urbanismo híbrido, configurando uma nova condição ao seu espaço. O projeto urbano, que imagina ordenar e constituir uma ambiência urbana de alta qualidade, sofreu mutações que emergiu das novas dinâmicas das dimensões políticas, sociais e ideológicas inscritas no espaço.

Esta investigação tem como objetivo refletir sobre os processos que Porto Alegre e Barcelona têm desenvolvido como cidades-educadoras, seus limites e perspectivas, como proposta oficial, observadas com uma atitude fenomenológica compreensiva e de caráter qualitativo, evidenciando os aspetos educativos que transitam na cidade, os agentes sociais que fazem parte desta proposta e os seus alcances, ainda ressaltando as caraterísticas próprias de cada cidade. Esta pesquisa apresenta uma série de propostas orientadas pelas Prefeituras com a participação de alguns organismos e instituições sociais que estão direcionadas para grupos populacionais concretos, como elemento contraposto a proposta, assim, surge uma interpretação que coloca a cidade como pedagogia numa perspectiva dinâmica e abrangente, que resgata o protagonismo das comunidades na construção de saberes e na relação com o Estado. Também apresenta os limites da cidade-educadora, que apontam para a consolidação de uma cidade como pedagogia. Pode-se afirmar que a cidade como pedagogia resgata as práticas sociais desenvolvidas pelas comunidades que habitam a cidade, dá sentido educativo aos processos vividos por elas e confronta no mundo urbano o instituído e o instituinte.
