The monarchy was abolished, and a republic installed (1910), soon giving way to a long-lasting dictatorship (1926); a transition to democracy (1974) led to membership of the European Union (1986). But what do we know of how people lived during these periods? And how did men, in particular, respond to the changes taking place in society? O presente livro reúne um conjunto de textos sobre a obra literária de Nuno Bragança (1929-1985), que na sua totalidade já foram apresentados ao público, em Congressos e Conferências, ou em publicações, ou nas duas modalidades. Todos eles foram revistos e na maior parte aumentados. Pretende-se com esta publicação oferecer ao leitor uma visão mais abrangente e aprofundada da obra deste autor, colocando lado a lado textos até agora dispersos e que, reunidos, permitem um olhar simultâneo para uma obra multifacetada. A organização e estrutura do livro procuram por si só dar ao leitor uma visão de conjunto da obra de Nuno Bragança, apontando para as características inconfundíveis da sua escrita, os temas nela tratados, com marcas de intemporalidade, e as visões do mundo que o autor, os seus livros e as suas personagens promovem. O título escolhido procura sintetizar a vida e obra do autor em duas frases famosas que, a nosso ver, orientaram Nuno Bragança, enquanto pessoa e enquanto escritor. De facto, para ele e suas personagens, é direito de cada um, mas sobretudo um dever, «mudar a vida» («changer la vie») a nível individual, como escreveu Rimbaud, mas é igualmente um direito e um dever «transformar o mundo», contribuindo para as mudanças sociais e políticas necessárias para a construção de uma sociedade livre e justa, como prescreveu Marx. Nuno Bragança e os seus protagonistas literários lutaram por duas vias para que estas duas frases se concretizassem, para cada pessoa, para Portugal e para a Humanidade. Uma dessas vias é, sem dúvida, a escrita literária, uma forma de revolucionar o mundo e, para o autor, a sua «forma de estar com os outros». Os caminhos percorridos para que essas duas máximas se tornassem realidade conduzem directamente ao auto-retrato do autor: «Um homem. Com os outros»

Fra le intenzioni di questa indagine c’è il tentativo di verificare come il rapporto fra paesaggio e letteratura in Portogallo (anche nel suo fitto dialogo con le arti: pittura e, in ambito novecentesco, fotografia) oltre a produrre una sofisticata rete semiotica e un inesauribile arsenale metaforico, si presti come campo di ricerca per comprendere la costruzione dell’identità portoghese e la sua complessa relazione con gli eventi della sua storia, con il proprio immaginario, con l’esperienza culturale di una comunità che si riconosce in quanto tale e che si racconta elaborando importanti canoni di auto-rappresentazione decidendo, a seconda dell’epoca e delle contingenze, di sovvertirli, decostruirli o, non di rado, tentare di eternizzarli. I saggi che compongono il volume sono dedicati ai seguenti temi: la costruzione del paesaggio nell’epoca dell’Espansione e alla sua decostruzione postcoloniale; l’Oceano Atlantico come simbolo della dimensione pelagica del paese iberico; la poetica di Sophia de Mello Breyner Andersen (e in particolare all’opera “geografica” Navigazioni); l’Ode Marittima di Fernando Pessoa; le rappresentazioni di Lisbona declinate secondo i canoni dell’avanguardia modernista e in generale secondo le principali estetiche del Novecento (dalla visione di Almada Negreiros fino a L’anno della morte di Ricardo Reis di José Saramago); il paesaggio della provincia dai prodromi romantici (Almeida Garrett) al latifondo realista durante la dittatura di Salazar (José Cardoso Pires); l’estrema geografia della regione del Trás-os-Montes come allegoria del pessimismo lusitano (il “paesaggio in ombra” da Antero de Quental al progetto più recente di Susana Moreira Marques sui luoghi delle origini e sullo spazio del fine-vita).

Astrojildo Pereira, um dos nove fundadores do Partido Comunista do Brasil (PCB), morreu convencido de que o partido sempre acertava, até quando errava. Foi ainda reconhecido como um dos mais representativos e respeitados participantes da tentativa de transformar o mundo não só em seu aspecto material, mas também em suas bases culturais. O revolucionário cordial: Astrojildo Pereira e as origens de uma política cultural é uma tentativa de interpretação da trajetória do intelectual Astrojildo Pereira através de seus escritos e sua comunicação, principalmente aquela impressa em livros. O trabalho de Martin Cezar Feijó busca apresentar os escritos militantes de Pereira, marcados por profunda tensão entre a revolução e a modernidade, no período que compreende a Primeira Grande Guerra (1914-1918) e o fim da Segunda Guerra (1939-1945). Mais do que isso, analisa a proposta de construção de uma política cultural levantada por Astrojildo. O projeto de alfabetização proposto por ele levava em conta a cultura popular e preferia chamar à luta um setor da sociedade civil rebelde (ou que, pelo menos, deveria sê-lo) às imposições do Estado: os intelectuais. Investimento na formação intelectual, moral e estética de todas as pessoas, em condições iguais e democráticas. É a origem de um projeto de política cultural de um revolucionário que leva em conta a memória dos afetos e das dores do país, apontando para um futuro melhor, apesar das adversidades. Com prefácio inédito de Sergio Augusto e inserção de imagens raras, a segunda edição atualizada da biografia escrita por Feijó chega ao público no contexto de aniversário dos cem anos de fundação do Partido Comunista – Seção Brasileira da Internacional Comunista (1922-2022).

Au début du XXe siècle, Alcântara donne encore l'image d'un quartier industrialisé d'une grande ville européenne. Longtemps faubourg de Lisbonne puis quartier populaire mieux intégré à l'univers urbain, Alcântara n'a alors rien d'un quartier ouvrier monolithique et socialement homogène. Il s'agit d'un milieu complexe et instable dont l'évolution demeure emblématique de l'histoire du Portugal contemporain: une urbanisation circonscrite mais qui s'est accélérée au cours de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle; une industrialisation poussive mais diversifiée. Alcântara, un milieu populaire plus qu'ouvrier proprement dit où cohabitent des ouvriers plus ou moins qualifiés, des artisans, le monde du petit commerce et quelques employés ou fonctionnaires. Tel est l'objet de cette étude: des modes de rencontre, d'approximation ou de mise à distance entre des groupes socioprofessionnels sans cesse en reconstruction. Les habitants d'Alcântara saisis dans la diversité de leurs trajectoires, de leurs appartenances professionnelles et de leurs relations. Les outils classiques de l'historien sont-ils adaptés pour comprendre ces logiques multiples qui, au jour le jour, contribuent à structurer ou à stabiliser provisoirement un tel milieu social? À travers une étude intensive d'une source dite pauvre - une série d'actes de l'état civil - c'est aussi une réflexion sur les approches et les méthodes en histoire sociale qui est ici proposée.

Defendemos ser urgente um projeto que busque uma alternativa, por um lado, à receita de tornar compacto o nãocompacto e, por outro, à simples inclusão da condição de não-lugar, não-cidade e não-edificado numa nova epistemologia ampliada do urbanismo. Post-compact city presents the hypothesis that another view on modern urbanism may provide us with clues for dealing with the challenges of the contemporary urban phenomenon. We argue that there is an urgent need for a design strategy that provides an alternative for, on the one hand, a recipe in order to make the non-compact compact and, on the other, the simple inclusion of the condition of non-place, non-city and unbuilt in a new expanded epistemology of urbanism.
