A Course in Differential Equations with Boundary Value Problems, 2nd Edition adds additional content to the author’s successful A Course on Ordinary Differential Equations, 2nd Edition. This text addresses the need when the course is expanded. The focus of the text is on applications and methods of solution, both analytical and numerical, with emphasis on methods used in the typical engineering, physics, or mathematics student’s field of study. The text provides sufficient problems so that even the pure math major will be sufficiently challenged. The authors offer a very flexible text to meet a variety of approaches, including a traditional course on the topic. The text can be used in courses when partial differential equations replaces Laplace transforms. There is sufficient linear algebra in the text so that it can be used for a course that combines differential equations and linear algebra. Most significantly, computer labs are given in MATLAB®, Mathematica®, and MapleTM. The book may be used for a course to introduce and equip the student with a knowledge of the given software. Sample course outlines are included. Features MATLAB®, Mathematica®, and MapleTM are incorporated at the end of each chapter All three software packages have parallel code and exercises There are numerous problems of varying difficulty for both the applied and pure math major, as well as problems for engineering, physical science and other students. An appendix that gives the reader a "crash course" in the three software packages Chapter reviews at the end of each chapter to help the students review Projects at the end of each chapter that go into detail about certain topics and introduce new topics that the students are now ready to see Answers to most of the odd problems in the back of the book

"This is a textbook for the standard introductory differential equations course taken by science and engineering students. Its updated content reflects the wide availability of technical computing environments like Maple, Mathematica, and MATLAB that now are used extensively by practicing engineers and scientists. The traditional manual and symbolic methods are augmented with coverage also of qualitative and computer-based methods that employ numerical computation and graphical visualization to develop greater conceptual understanding. A bonus of this more comprehensive approach is accessibility to a wider range of more realistic applications of differential equations"--

Numerical Solution Of Boundary Value Problems For Ordinary Differential Equations written by Uri M. Ascher and has been published by SIAM this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1988-01-01 with Mathematics categories.

This book is the most comprehensive, up-to-date account of the popular numerical methods for solving boundary value problems in ordinary differential equations. It aims at a thorough understanding of the field by giving an in-depth analysis of the numerical methods by using decoupling principles. Numerous exercises and real-world examples are used throughout to demonstrate the methods and the theory. Although first published in 1988, this republication remains the most comprehensive theoretical coverage of the subject matter, not available elsewhere in one volume. Many problems, arising in a wide variety of application areas, give rise to mathematical models which form boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations. These problems rarely have a closed form solution, and computer simulation is typically used to obtain their approximate solution. This book discusses methods to carry out such computer simulations in a robust, efficient, and reliable manner.

Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems 11e, like its predecessors, is written from the viewpoint of the applied mathematician, whose interest in differential equations may sometimes be quite theoretical, sometimes intensely practical, and often somewhere in between. The authors have sought to combine a sound and accurate (but not abstract) exposition of the elementary theory of differential equations with considerable material on methods of solution, analysis, and approximation that have proved useful in a wide variety of applications. While the general structure of the book remains unchanged, some notable changes have been made to improve the clarity and readability of basic material about differential equations and their applications. In addition to expanded explanations, the 11th edition includes new problems, updated figures and examples to help motivate students. The program is primarily intended for undergraduate students of mathematics, science, or engineering, who typically take a course on differential equations during their first or second year of study. The main prerequisite for engaging with the program is a working knowledge of calculus, gained from a normal two or three semester course sequence or its equivalent. Some familiarity with matrices will also be helpful in the chapters on systems of differential equations.

The last fifty years have witnessed several monographs and hundreds of research articles on the theory, constructive methods and wide spectrum of applications of boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations. In this vast field of research, the conjugate (Hermite) and the right focal point (Abei) types of problems have received the maximum attention. This is largely due to the fact that these types of problems are basic, in the sense that the methods employed in their study are easily extendable to other types of prob lems. Moreover, the conjugate and the right focal point types of boundary value problems occur frequently in real world problems. In the monograph Boundary Value Problems for Higher Order Differential Equations published in 1986, we addressed the theory of conjugate boundary value problems. At that time the results on right focal point problems were scarce; however, in the last ten years extensive research has been done. In Chapter 1 of the mono graph we offer up-to-date information of this newly developed theory of right focal point boundary value problems. Until twenty years ago Difference Equations were considered as the dis cretizations of the differential equations. Further, it was tacitly taken for granted that the theories of difference and differential equations are parallel. However, striking diversities and wide applications reported in the last two decades have made difference equations one of the major areas of research.

Elementary Differential Equations With Boundary Value Problems written by William F. Trench and has been published by Thomson Brooks/Cole this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with Mathematics categories.

Written in a clear and accurate language that students can understand, Trench's new book minimizes the number of explicitly stated theorems and definitions. Instead, he deals with concepts in a conversational style that engages students. He includes more than 250 illustrated, worked examples for easy reading and comprehension. One of the book's many strengths is its problems, which are of consistently high quality. Trench includes a thorough treatment of boundary-value problems and partial differential equations and has organized the book to allow instructors to select the level of technology desired. This has been simplified by using symbols, C and L, to designate the level of technology. C problems call for computations and/or graphics, while L problems are laboratory exercises that require extensive use of technology. Informal advice on the use of technology is included in several sections and instructors who prefer not to emphasize technology can ignore these exercises without interrupting the flow of material.

A Second Course In Elementary Differential Equations written by Paul Waltman and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-10 with Mathematics categories.

A Second Course in Elementary Differential Equations deals with norms, metric spaces, completeness, inner products, and an asymptotic behavior in a natural setting for solving problems in differential equations. The book reviews linear algebra, constant coefficient case, repeated eigenvalues, and the employment of the Putzer algorithm for nondiagonalizable coefficient matrix. The text describes, in geometrical and in an intuitive approach, Liapunov stability, qualitative behavior, the phase plane concepts, polar coordinate techniques, limit cycles, the Poincaré-Bendixson theorem. The book explores, in an analytical procedure, the existence and uniqueness theorems, metric spaces, operators, contraction mapping theorem, and initial value problems. The contraction mapping theorem concerns operators that map a given metric space into itself, in which, where an element of the metric space M, an operator merely associates with it a unique element of M. The text also tackles inner products, orthogonality, bifurcation, as well as linear boundary value problems, (particularly the Sturm-Liouville problem). The book is intended for mathematics or physics students engaged in ordinary differential equations, and for biologists, engineers, economists, or chemists who need to master the prerequisites for a graduate course in mathematics.
