What can you capture and pass along to your kids that gives you a chance to hand down the most vivid memories of your family's time together? Remembrances that start during their youngest years of childhood and continue on into their adult lives. Now try to include a piece of your humor so the next generations will know a little slice of you, and what is behind the smile they see in the pictures of you. For me the answer was simple. I have cooked for my wife Kim and our family since one of our first dates. As our family grew, the menus grew, and the stories grew. In this book I have included many of the foods we have enjoyed together over these thirty plus years. Time has a way of making the stories grow, and these recipes seem to have stories attached to them. Our kitchen is much more than just the food made in it; it's really about the birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and more. It's about family, and my family is all about the kitchen, so this book is for them. I hope you enjoy it too, and find a little bit of your family in my kitchen! -Bill Hanson

My Fat Dad written by Dawn Lerman and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-09-29 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

From the author of the New York Times Well Blog series, My Fat Dad Every story and every memory from my childhood is attached to food… Dawn Lerman spent her childhood constantly hungry. She craved good food as her father, 450 pounds at his heaviest, pursued endless fad diets, from Atkins to Pritikin to all sorts of freeze-dried, saccharin-laced concoctions, and insisted the family do the same—even though no one else was overweight. Dawn’s mother, on the other hand, could barely be bothered to eat a can of tuna over the sink. She was too busy ferrying her other daughter to acting auditions and scolding Dawn for cleaning the house (“Whom are you trying to impress?”). It was chaotic and lonely, but Dawn had someone she could turn to: her grandmother Beauty. Those days spent with Beauty, learning to cook, breathing in the scents of fresh dill or sharing the comfort of a warm pot of chicken soup, made it all bearable. Even after Dawn’s father took a prestigious ad job in New York City and moved the family away, Beauty would send a card from Chicago every week—with a recipe, a shopping list, and a twenty-dollar bill. She continued to cultivate Dawn’s love of wholesome food, and ultimately taught her how to make her own way in the world—one recipe at a time. In My Fat Dad, Dawn reflects on her colorful family and culinary-centric upbringing, and how food shaped her connection to her family, her Jewish heritage, and herself. Humorous and compassionate, this memoir is an ode to the incomparable satisfaction that comes with feeding the ones you love.

Created by a father and daughter that love to cook and eat together, this cookbook is full of simple recipes, helpful tips, and product recommendations for dads (and everyone). Included are 17 essential recipes that you can use over and over to make delicious meals your kids will absolutely love. Wanting your kids to eat more vegetables? Inside you will find a recipe to use for different vegetables that even the pickiest of eaters will enjoy. Do you really need a recipe for a PB&J? If you want to make a GREAT one that your kids will love, this book is for you. Or, if you want to make something a little more complicated, like mouth-watering grilled salmon, this book is for you, too. We try and purchase organic products as much as possible. Our favorite places to shop include our local farmers market, Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods. I use a lot of olive oil when I cook. Julia Child once said you need a certain amount of fat in your diet to process your vitamins. Olive oil, along with avocados and salmon, is how I prefer to get it. After researching what foods might help with boosting immunity, I discovered the benefits of mushrooms. I cook with them to support good health and to add extra umami. My daughter prefers no mushrooms at this point, so I just take them out when I make her plate. We use mainly whole wheat bread, tortillas, and pasta. The right amount of salt and pepper can make a huge difference in flavor. When it comes to measuring, I almost always eyeball amounts. Most measurements included in the recipes are general estimates, so experiment with those. An exception is the recipe for the New Fashioned Pancakes, so follow that more closely. Most of these recipes make one or two servings, so adjust them as needed. Have fun cooking with your kids and teach them about kitchen safety. Help them learn the importance of a healthy diet, how to cook for themselves, and the joy of sharing meals together.
