KIN has been a long time coming for this author. It combines history with a terrific and tragic story of two brothers separated when they were young. One lives the life of a terrorist for the Irish Republican Army, the other works as an agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and has to hunt his brother down. The brothers also have a sister who is dying from cancer, and her letters to her brother keep him walking a tightrope between the love for his family and his job of pursuing them at the same time. KIN contains, at times, heart-wrenching drama along with plenty of action and excitement. The one thing it does most of all is try to tell a story that covers both sides of the troubles Ireland has been plagued with for centuries. There are no happy endings when it comes to an Irish story, only realism and honesty. This is what the book accomplishes.

In a brilliantly plotted contemporary thriller with echoes of Graham Greene and John le Carré, William Carver, a veteran but unpredictable BBC hack, is thrown into the unknown when a bomb goes off killing a local official. Warned off the story from every direction, Carver won't give in until he finds the truth. Patrick, a young producer, is sent out on his first foreign assignment to control the wayward Carver, but as the story unravels it looks like the real story lies between the shadowy corridors of the BBC, the perilous streets of Kabul and the dark chambers of Whitehall. Set in a shadowy world of dubious morality and political treachery, A Dying Breed is a gripping novel about journalism in a time of war, about the struggle to tell the stories that need to be told - even if it is much easier not to. *And William Carver returns in Peter Hanington's A Single Source and A Cursed Place - out now*

The Passions Of Andrew Jackson written by Andrew Burstein and has been published by Vintage this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-12-18 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Most people vaguely imagine Andrew Jackson as a jaunty warrior and a man of the people, but he was much more—a man just as complex and controversial as Jefferson or Lincoln. Now, with the first major reinterpretation of his life in a generation, historian Andrew Burstein brings back Jackson with all his audacity and hot-tempered rhetoric. The unabashedly aggressive Jackson came of age in the Carolinas during the American Revolution, migrating to Tennessee after he was orphaned at the age of fourteen. Little more than a poorly educated frontier bully when he first opened his public career, he was possessed of a controlling sense of honor that would lead him into more than one duel. As a lover, he fled to Spanish Mississippi with his wife-to-be before she was divorced. Yet when he was declared a national hero upon his stunning victory at the Battle of New Orleans, Jackson suddenly found the presidency within his grasp. How this brash frontiersman took Washington by storm makes a fascinating story, and Burstein tells it thoughtfully and expertly. In the process he reveals why Jackson was so fiercely loved (and fiercely hated) by the American people, and how his presidency came to shape the young country’s character.
