A long-standing promise from a father to his five-year-old son . . . A poignant diary that chronicles the journey When Don Snyder was teaching the game of golf to his young son, Jack, they made a pact: if one day Jack became good enough to play on a pro golf tour, Don would walk beside him as his caddie. Years later, Jack had developed into a standout college golfer, and Don, at the age of fifty-eight, left the comfort of his Maine home and moved to St. Andrews, Scotland, to learn from the best caddies in the world. He worked loops on famed courses like the Old Course and Kingsbarns, fought his way onto the rotation as a full-time caddie, and recorded the fascinating stories of golfers from every station in life. All the while, he lived like a monk and sent his earnings back home. A world away, Jack endured his own arduous trials, rising through the ranks and battling within the college golf system. At times, the question for the teenage athlete wasn’t how to continue . . . but whether to continue at all. Finally, Don and Jack approached the moment when they would reunite—and not only tackle an extraordinarily high level of golf competition but also confront the challenges of a father-son relationship that had inevitably changed since the days when their journey began. Walking with Jack is a truly compelling golf story and a one-of-a-kind narrative that makes you appreciate the lengths to which a father will go to support his son.

A Father S Walk written by Matt Haviland and has been published by WestBowPress this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-02-21 with Family & Relationships categories.

There are over twenty-five million children growing up in America today without their biological father in the home, and single parents account for approximately 37 percent of all households. Yet, there is still a huge lack of Christian-based ministries for single parents, especially when it comes to the dads. Based off of his experience as a single dad himself, Matt Haviland shares with us his journey of joy, trials, and grace that has brought him to this point in single father ministry. He tells in dramatic detail the testimony of how Jesus not only rescued and redeemed him from a destructive lifestyle, but how God has given him the ability to lead and guide single dads along the way and become a great dad as well. A Father’s Walk is not just another self-help book. It is a tool, resource, and inspiration written by someone who is in the trenches every single day—a man who knows the love only a father can have for his child, the daily struggles of being a single dad, and the unimaginable grace that our Savior bestows upon those who call upon Him. This is a must-have for any single dad looking to grow as a father and in their walk with the Lord!

Buen Camino written by Natasha Murtagh and has been published by Gill Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

This is the story of an Irish father and his 18-year-old daughter and their 900-kilometre walk together across northern Spain along the ancient pilgrim route to the tomb of St James. Peter and Natasha's journey starts in drizzle and wind as they scale Croagh Patrick, Ireland's Holy Mountain in Mayo, before setting off immediately afterwards for the Pyrenees in France. There, they start walking the Camino, the Way of St James, to Santiago de Compostela. It is a gruelling trek over three mountain ranges; through fields and valleys, villages, towns and cities, to the lush countryside and forests of Galicia, and eventually to Finisterre, the pagan end of the earth. Along the way, they meet a motley collection of other pilgrims -- men and women, young and old, from many countries -- with whom they laugh, cry and above all have fun amid moments of high drama, exhilaration and sometimes exhaustion. They run with the bulls and parade in a fiesta; they pray with the faithful, and explore the Camino's rich Christian and pagan history, its tiny churches and majestic cathedrals; they stay in its sometimes Spartan pilgrim hostels and appreciate the richness of living simply, with few possessions, on about 20 each a day. And after five weeks' walking, do they still love each other? Absolutely... and would do it all again tomorrow if they could... -A lovely book for those who have done the Camino, or like me, are thinking of doing it.- The Dubliner -This is a travel book, certainly, but it is much much, more than that. It's about family and friendship and camaraderie, and it is, in the end, a wonderfully warm story about the bond between a loving adventurous father and his daughter ready to embrace the world.- - The Irish Mail on Sunday

A Man S Greatest Challenge Being A Father written by David Reedman and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-10-23 with Family & Relationships categories.

Out of the many experiences of my own life both personally and in working with large numbers of young people and their families, I have seen the increasing devastating effect that fatherlessness is having in our society. I am a father – to me that is a great privilege and honour – and I have walked out the journey of raising 3 children of my own, and I have also observed the challenges that many men face in being a father. To a large extent it was a combination of those 3 factors/experiences that challenged me to write a book on what I believe is a man’s greatest challenge – that of being a father. In the book I firstly wanted to highlight briefly some of the consequences of fatherlessness in our society. Men need to know that the efforts that they make as fathers are important – they are leaving a legacy in the lives of their children that will impact generations. And they need to know that the challenges that they face as they seek to father their children are not unique. As fathers we are all in the same ‘fight’; we are all walking out a very similar journey and I want to challenge men afresh to rise up and make a difference in their own homes and families and then in society. The majority of the book is designed to pass on the things that I have learnt in my own journey as a father to the next generation of fathers. I firstly present what I believe are some of the fundamental requirements of being an effective father – things such as love and time, and the power of the words that we speak. I then focus on six basic steps or principles that apply to becoming an effective father to your children. These six ‘steps’ are both sequential, and yet they need to be continually applied to the many different areas of life time and time again – you never outgrow them, rather they evolve as you and your children grow and mature. I then look at the importance of dealing with your children as individuals, and encourage men to see things in a long term perspective. Life at times does get messy and take unexpected detours, but with time we get to see the results that we all desire as men in the lives of our children. In all these areas I haven’t sought to give men a ‘how to’ guide or a ‘step by step’ method, rather where possible I have endeavoured to share examples from my own family to help explain the principles and to help men work out how to apply the truths to their own families. The last thing that I touch on is to address some of the main challenges or obstacles that we as men confront as we seek to be an effective father. For each of these areas one could write an entire book on the subject, and the ways in which these obstacles work out in a man’s life are as varied as men themselves. So all that I have done is to raise awareness of these issues and give some broad guidelines to help guide men through them. As fathers we are all in the process of learning and growing. None of us have arrived, but we can all learn from one another and together we can make a positive change in our society for the benefit of the generations to come. Being a father is a man’s greatest challenge, and it is hard work at times but it is worth it all.
