Excerpt from Critical and Exegetical Handbook to the Revelation of John "Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy." Such are the words in which this last book of the Bible is commended to our attention and study. However exalted its mysteries above our comprehension, we dare not because of their difficulty pass over them, but may confidently expect to be richly rewarded by the frequent contemplation even of those portions of the book whose solution we cannot even feebly conjecture in this life. It is perfectly consistent with the utmost simplicity in the preaching of the Gospel, and with the avoidance of curious speculations so much to be condemned, for the Christian pastor to aid the reading of his hearers by the exposition of such lines of divine thought in this book as in his private studies he can clearly trace. This volume is offered as a help to such study. Its author, Dr. Fr. Diisterdieck, is well known as a writer on Apologetics, and still continues to publish exegetical papers in Luthardt's Zeitsclirift fur kirchliche Wissenschaften and elsewhere. He has furnished us with perhaps the most important commentary on this book which we thus far possess. His spirit is reverent and devout, his judgment generally calm and discriminating, his investigations wide and exhaustive. Although we concede so much, we are by no means ready to indorse his opinions on all the subjects presented, and in several of his long discussions we regard his judgment, which is ordinarily trustworthy, as seriously at fault. How John Wrote the Book of Revelation is the first of its kind, and introduces genetic literary reconstruction to Biblical studies. It enables the reader to produce prior drafts of Hebrew and Christian Scriptures, thereby allowing the reader to apply the literary science of genetic criticism to a book in the Bible. How John Wrote the Book of Revelation takes the most difficult book to understand in the Christian Scriptures and reveals the sequence in which it was written, from the very first line to the final parallel. This provides the reader, for the first time, with the experience of observing how a Biblical book was written, and does this from an intimate perspective, as though they were looking over John's shoulders as he crafted it. How John Wrote the Book of Revelation is the first book that teaches the reader how to read Revelation the way it was written. After centuries of blind guess work trying to divine meaning, and weak interpretations of symbols, this book finally presents a clear, precise, and consistent method. It is a guidebook to identify all the rich symbols and their meanings within Revelation. Inside the pages of this book is the all-encompassing theory of construction for the book of Revelation. It includes three prior drafts of the book of Revelation, along with hundreds of charts and illustrations. How John Wrote the Book of Revelation is like no other book that has been written before, and sets a new paradigm for all Biblical works.
