From a family background very different from Jessie's, Carter's entrance into the picture interrupts Jessie's pre-laid plans for the future and catapults her into an adolescent journey of friendship, maturity and love. Based on a true story from the mid-to-late 1960s, this coming-of-age novel with an Atlanta backdrop will spark memories of people and places, some of which no longer exist, and provide a basis for understanding what it was like to grow up in the capital city of the South during one of the most tumultuous decades in our country's history, including the arrival of the Beatles and the specter of Vietnam...but most of all, it will remind us once again that our first true loves will remain with us always.
