The church of Venezuela has been reduced to a political and social impotence that makes it unique in Spanish-American states. Because of the low stage of Indian civilization and the decentralization and factionalism in organization, the church never consolidated its control. This book covers all the more important aspects of the story of the church in Venezuela. Originally published in 1933. "Orinoco! God at Work in Venezuela follows the growth of the evangelical church in Eastern Venezuela. It tells the story from a macro perspective that points to a dovetailing of world events-a God-sized picture-that led to individual and particular encounters. The book alternates between examining details of pioneer missionary life and using key lookout points to provide a perspective from which to interpret the details of history and God's guiding hand. Orinoco! pulls together multiple examples of North American missionaries and Venezuelans who sought to focus on what was most important, sometimes getting caught up by their own limitations, lack of knowledge, and understanding. Despite internal and external pressures, they persevered and believed in what God was doing in their midst."-- from back cover.

Conflict And Political Change In Venezuela written by Daniel H. Levine and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-03-08 with Political Science categories.

Venezuela has had a long and bloody history of military dictatorships. Yet, since 1958, it has developed one of the few effective, competitive democracies in Latin America. To explain this transformation Daniel H. Levine analyzes the development of modern mass-based political parties with pervasive organizations and commanding strong loyalties; the changing structure and content of social and political conflict; and the gradual emergence of common norms governing political behavior. This book does not pretend to be a general survey of Venezuelan politics. Rather, it is an attempt to understand, for both theoretical and practical purposes, the development of shared "rules of the game" for political action in a heterogeneous society. Once these norms are accepted by key elites, and then imposed on recalcitrant oppositions, they provide a means of controlling and managing political conflict without eliminating it. Mr. Levine's conclusions are based primarily on case studies of specific political conflicts. His study of conflicts over educational reform uncovers the conditions in which a traditional sector of society—Catholic groups and institutions—moved from violent, total opposition to the political system to a position of accommodation. In the second case study he examines the role of students in politics, with special reference to the integration of students in national patterns of conflict and opposition.
