Silence 2 Success: a mother's journey with autism, is a personal journey into the world of Autism. My story begins with a difficult pregnancy and a heart-wrenching diagnosis to a successful, thriving young boy. This book provides insight into a mother's experience with therapy options and choices, working with the school district, finding family balance, and never accepting failure. One thing I know for sure, the decision to try multiple therapies, over time was an excellent choice, for our family. A child's needs change over time, so shouldn't the method of therapy do the same to best fit those needs?Jacob was diagnosed at 20 months old and I knew instantly that my purpose in life was to make sure he had the best opportunities for a successful life. I have learned an enormous amount of information on Autism and supporting interventions, but I also found the writing experience to be a journey of self-discovery. When I sat down to write, I was taken back to a time of intense emotions, sometimes despair, but most of all hope. We've come a long way and the future looks incredibly bright.Over the course of the last few years, working with Jacob, I have not only become a fierce advocate but also an advocate for other families with children on the spectrum in our community. I am amazed at how grateful people have been to hear our story and can only hope that this book will touch others that may be struggling with similar challenges. I am just getting started on this new journey, of sharing my story and hope that you find it compelling too.

Hostage to Silence tells the journey of Brady Wright, a nonverbal autistic young man who, through typing at age 13, finally revealed his poetic voice. Nice to have you reading my secret words. For years in silence, I have watched the world from a dormant life of observation. I hear through the sounds of chatter and pick out word by word. I hear sounds of nature like orchestras of harmonious creatures seeing their story. My writing is me opening you up to my corner of the world and singing a story of loss, hope, freedom and triumph. Born from Brady's depths of despair, highest of highs, and every emotion in between, this book spanning nearly five years is a gift for everyone and every family touched by autism. Through his poetry, Brady shatters myths that individuals with autism are obsessed with self, devoid of feeling, and lack empathy. His insights provide a compelling argument against a belief that "low-functioning" autism is defined by intellectual disability and lack of theory of mind. Brady pairs his poems with artwork from Gentry Groshell, a friend who is also nonverbal and autistic. She began her communication journey by expressing herself as an abstract artist on canvas. Gentry paints with her heart and emotions. I believe my book shows just that as well. She is kind so she is the perfect choice. Time Some days are harder than others Minutes know valuable truths, the long days give hope Good days seem to come along more frequently now Spent roughly in my mind It's admirable and soulful inside me The thoughts I hope to share with good friends Come on this journey with me

The No. 1 Sunday Times and internationally bestselling account of life as a child with autism, now a documentary film Winner of Best Documentary and Best Sound in the British Independent Film Awards 2021. 'It will stretch your vision of what it is to be human' Andrew Solomon, The Times What is it like to have autism? How can we know what a person - especially a child - with autism is thinking and feeling? This groundbreaking book, written by Naoki Higashida when he was only thirteen, provides some answers. Severely autistic and non-verbal, Naoki learnt to communicate by using a 'cardboard keyboard' - and what he has to say gives a rare insight into an autistically-wired mind. He explains behaviour he's aware can be baffling such as why he likes to jump and why some people with autism dislike being touched; he describes how he perceives and navigates the world, sharing his thoughts and feelings about time, life, beauty and nature; and he offers an unforgettable short story. Proving that people with autism do not lack imagination, humour or empathy, THE REASON I JUMP made a major impact on its publication in English. Widely praised, it was an immediate No. 1 Sunday Times bestseller as well as a New York Times bestseller and has since been published in over thirty languages. In 2020, a documentary film based on the book received its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Directed by Jerry Rothwell, produced by Jeremy Dear, Stevie Lee and Al Morrow, and funded by Vulcan Productions and the British Film Institute, it won the festival's Audience Award for World Cinema Documentary, then further awards at the Vancouver, Denver and Valladolid International Film Festivals before its global release in 2021. The book includes eleven original illustrations inspired by Naoki's words, by the artistic duo Kai and Sunny.
