The ideas and experiences shared by author Nene Molefi speak directly to the troubling prejudices and inequities that persist in our world. Diversity and inclusion are more pressing than ever. Injustices and deep social divisions persist, personally and systemically. Racism, sexism, homophobia, and other forms of fear and hatred are not isolated. They remain embedded and they demand courageous, deliberate work. In this book, Nene uses her own story to cast a bright light on the transformation journey. Nene's book quite vulnerably takes the reader on Nene's personal journey. In addition to the deeply personal content, each chapter ends with practical guidelines on how to lead inclusively. Nene's book offers hope and substance in our vision of a diverse and inclusive and just society.' A-Justice Edwin Cameron 'This is a deeply authentic personal narrative offering powerful and practical insights, from one of South Africa's foremost advisors on diversity and transformation. Leaders are expected to lead the way of inclusion, live the values and thereby define the DNA of their organisation.' A-Bongani Nqwababa, Joint President & CEO, Sasol Limited 'Mind-opening for those yet to be convinced of the need for transformation, and helpful to those who are already committed to transformation but are not sure how to play a part. Hibbert explores South Africa’s higher education crisis utilising case studies and first-hand experiences with English as the language of instruction. The historical overview provides a framework with which to understand the complicated nature of using English as a language of instruction in South Africa, past and present. Student narratives are presented to illustrate mainly breakthroughs, but also challenges. An overview is provided, of imported English teaching methodologies and how they have emerged and developed in the local educational system over decades. It is demonstrated how these methodologies relate to socio-economic and political events and trends at each juncture. By applying defamiliarisation as a research method of investigation, students’ translanguaging struggles are recorded and discussed, both pre-pandemic and in the pandemic period. The experiences of non-monolingual English-speaking staff and students, and of local English/African language bilinguals is foregrounded, as they are by far the majority in South African higher education and schools. The relevance of the experiences and learning paths of those staff and students is enhanced. This book aids lecturers across disciplines and English language facilitators in the improvement of English acquisition curricula through exposure to arguments, case studies and learning path narratives in this volume, and prompts and inspires researchers to develop further theories and experiments in their own context.

The Fortune 500 corporations are challenged by the intercultural leadership deficit that extends to governmental and nonprofit organizations. The book presents the argument for intercultural competent Team leadership among organizations for managing diverse workforce for efficiency and productivity. The nonprofit sector, for example, has a leadership deficit gap over the next decades—just like the Fortune corporations are facing the shortage of managers required to provide the desired intercultural competent management in the global marketplace. Trading across the borders demands acculturated management dynamics than the world is accustomed, after transcendence from the industrial revolution. The business world and service organizations, including governmental ones, are challenged by intercultural values required locally and abroad to maintain a successful Team leadership in global organizational management. The solution involves global standard management operation by trained diversity Team leadership across the sectors to harmonize workplaces, as the world has changed to diversity world of inclusion. Industries rely on efficient management characterized by diverse cultures. The deficit gap has created a dent in profit and quality services. The effect can lead to discrimination and racism that can negatively affect the workforce environment as a cross-section of the workforce feels discriminated against, owing to conscious and unconscious bias treatment. Industries need to rethink the strategies for diversity inclusion by appropriate training of managers locally and globally for the delivery of the desired services. Team leadership deficits need attention among organizations in globalization. The current public outcry about the deaths of citizens and the recent Starbuck Coffee shop's unconscious treatment of a black man is the US, was a reawakening call for re-engagement of the dialogue about diversity inclusion as a challenge to public services, including governmental, non-governmental, and international organizations. The incidents show the deficit of diversity inclusion and affirmative action synergism and need education in the learning environment, including workplaces. The education of leaders about the diversity population is advocated in the book.
