While still a little boy Delham Yorg loses both his parents in a rail accident. His unscrupulous aunt avails herself of the opportunity and manages to inherit the whole of his grandfather’s wealth, leaving him without a penny to live on. Being fond of sports cars and speed driving he is delighted to see on T.V. a science-fiction ‘time craft’ that can go faster than light. While apprenticed as a mechanic in a garage, he is fired for damaging a client’s car by driving faster than normal in trying it. He works as a salesman in a bookshop, becomes a self-taught philosopher among books, but soon has to lose his new job because he makes love to a female client inside the shop during the absence of his employer. Meanwhile his aunt falls and dies on the steps of the grandfather’s house she has usurped. Being the next of kin and the only relative of the old woman he inherits all the fortune she has stolen. Some of her servants charge him with killing her. Also he is suspected of having committed a number of crimes, including the use of carbombs to blow up schools and hospitals. His girl friend, too, is in trouble: she is accused by her brother-in-law of having murdered her husband. Both lovers take to flight on what his imagination saw as a ‘time craft’. The outcome: a tragedy he could neither forecast nor help.

The Art Of Slow Writing written by Louise DeSalvo and has been published by St. Martin's Griffin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-07 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

In a series of conversational observations and meditations on the writing process, The Art of Slow Writing examines the benefits of writing slowly. DeSalvo advises her readers to explore their creative process on deeper levels by getting to know themselves and their stories more fully over a longer period of time. She writes in the same supportive manner that encourages her students, using the slow writing process to help them explore the complexities of craft. The Art of Slow Writing is the antidote to self-help books that preach the idea of fast-writing, finishing a novel a year, and quick revisions. DeSalvo makes a case that more mature writing often develops over a longer period of time and offers tips and techniques to train the creative process in this new experience. DeSalvo describes the work habits of successful writers (among them, Nobel Prize laureates) so that readers can use the information provided to develop their identity as writers and transform their writing lives. It includes anecdotes from classic American and international writers such as John Steinbeck, Henry Miller, Virginia Woolf and D. H. Lawrence as well as contemporary authors such as Michael Chabon, Junot Diaz, Jeffrey Eugenides, Ian McEwan, and Salman Rushdie. DeSalvo skillfully and gently guides writers to not only start their work, but immerse themselves fully in the process and create texts they will treasure.

Economic Exchange And Social Interaction In Southeast Asia written by Karl L. Hutterer and has been published by U OF M CENTER FOR SOUTH EAST ASIAN STUDI this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1978-01-01 with Social Science categories.

Economic behavior is governed by two major sets of boundary conditions: environmental and technological factors on the one hand, and conditions of social organization on the other hand. Indeed, social scientists are often particularly interested in the framework of exchange relationships: exchange of goods, services, personnel, and information. Economic exchanges lend concrete manifestations to social relations that themselves may transcend the economic realm and that otherwise are often difficult to trace. Yet in social science research in Southeast Asia, the area of economic studies has lagged behind, despite the great study potential represented by the tremendous diversity of its physical and human environment. Economic Exchange and Social Interaction in Southeast Asia attempts to take advantage of that opportunity. As a number of the contributions to this volume show, many if not most of the systems organized on very different levels of integration interact with each other. Taken as a whole, they provide evidence of the incredible diversity of economic and social systems that may be investigated in Southeast Asia.

Migrations Of The Heart written by Marita Golden and has been published by Anchor this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-01-04 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

In her classic memoir, distinguished author, television executive, and activist Marita Golden beautifully recounts an astounding journey to Africa and back. Marita Golden was raised in Washington, D.C., by a mother who was a cleaning woman and a father who was taxi-driver. For all their struggles, with life and each other, her parents instilled her with spirit and aspirations. Swept up in the heady Black Power movement of the sixties, Marita moved to New York to study journalism at Columbia--and fell in love with Femi Ajayi, a Nigerian architecture student.. Their passion led them to start a life together in Africa--a place Marita was eager to understand. Exhilarated by a world free of white racism, Marita quickly found work as a professor and embraced motherhood. But Femi's increasing expectations that she snap into the role of the submissive Nigerian wife were shocking and dispiriting. Her struggle to regain her footing and shape a black identity that was true to her spirit is suspenseful and inspiring, an uncommon tale of race, identity, and Africa.
