Excerpt from A King in Babylon I like Warren Creel. I like to work with him, for I consider him in many ways the best director in the business; but even he couldn't have got me started on a job like this if it hadn't been that, from the very first, I have had an uneasy consciousness that some day I should have to do it. There is nothing more disturbing to one's peace of mind than a thing like that - a sort of impending fate which there is no escaping. It has robbed me of many hours of much-needed rest; it has interfered with my appetite and my amusements; it has even in volved me in unpleasant scenes with Mollie, when a random answer betrayed that I had not been giving due heed to her remarks. But the climax came yesterday. Creel had been working all morning on a com plicated scene with a lot of dubs who were more than usually thick-headed. He had gone over it again and again, but the effect he wanted wouldn't come, and his temper had grown more and more frazzled. Then, quite suddenly, like the bits of coloured glass falling into place in a kaleidoscope, they got it. Ready! He snapped over his shoulder to me, and gave them the signal to start. Who is the king of Babylon in Isaiah 14? The early church sometimes identified him as Nebuchadnezzar, but most also saw a deeper meaning in Isa 14:12–14, believing this section referred to Satan. Many current scholars reject both views and offer a variety of alternatives. Little argues that “shining one” (Lucifer) in Isa 14:12 is the king of Babylon. This book analyzes the mashal (proverb) genre and argues that the Isa 14 mashal must be a real person, not a symbolic, ideal, eclectic, or representative king. Scholars have presented nine historic kings as the king of Babylon. Little compiles a list of fifteen criteria from Isa 13–14, evaluates these nine kings, and demonstrates that no historic king comes close to fulfilling the fifteen criteria. Instead, Little argues that the king of Babylon is Israel’s eschatological enemy. Through the use of catchwords and temporal particles, he first demonstrates that the oracle is a unit. Then he proves that this Babylonian judgment is eschatological. All foreign languages have been translated, allowing the student of prophecy and theology to benefit from this work. Those interested in the mashal genre, Hebrew poetry, and Isaianic exegesis will also find this book stimulating.

In the Old Testament, the Northern and Southern Tribes of Israel went into captivity under Assyria and Babylon. This books covers many of the specifics concerning the Chosen Ones' captivities: the reasons for Yahweh's judgment against His People and their kings; the progenitors of Israel's enemies and their kinship to the Children of Israel (Northern and Southern Tribes); the prophecies of Yahweh's prophets against Israel and their enemies (Assyria and Babylon) and the other nations; and Yahweh's forgiveness and restoration. Out of the millions of people (during the captivity of the Kingdom of Judah), the first few chapters of the Book of Daniel talks about the lives of The Three Hebrew Boys, Daniel, and king Nebuchadnezzar II. Taken at an early age, these four young princes of Judah (Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah, and Daniel), show us how to survive and endure traumatizing circumstances! Through it all, these young men maintained high levels of faith. They were not unimportant young men. They ate at Nebuchadnezzar's table and they personally knew the king who found them superior to all of the other young people (including his own advisers) in Babylonia. Furthermore, Yahweh proved these young men to be His choice! When JESUS comes to the rescue of His people (those who are faithful, live holy, and have fellowship with Him), no force on earth can stop Him! Brother, you can take that to the bank! Frankly, this is not an understatement! Traveling through this book with Professor Baykus (the wise old Hittite owl), the other animals, and king Nebuchadnezzar, we realize the king received just punishment from Yahweh. In fact, king Nebuchadnezzar was warned through dreams and visions to turn from his wicked ways. Daniel interpreted the king's dreams and visions and told the king to repent. However, the king was too far gone with himself to change. So, Yahweh made that change for king Nebuchadnezzar and took him away from the palace and Babylon the Great. During the seven years (away from his palace), the king was given the heart of a beast. It is the conversations we listen in on and through the eyes of the wild animals we envision the king, now the wolf-man! Lets go see what the animals had to say!
