Dementia afflicts millions of Americans and deeply affects the lives of their loved ones. Good care has been proven to have a significant effect on the quality of life of a person with dementia. To ensure good care, staff members of nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and adult day-care centers, and providers of home care must be thoroughly and continually trained by qualified and well-prepared professionals. Nancy L. Mace, coauthor of The 36-Hour Day, has created the ultimate teachers' guide for dementia care training. Rich with information and with tools for effective communication between teacher and student, the text supplies instructors with in-depth lessons and includes relevant charts, tables, and handouts, which may be customized to suit specific programs. Good training is the foundation for a confident and competent caregiver and supports the dignity and well-being of persons with dementia and their families. With her unmistakable compassion, humor, and wisdom, Mace has provided a much-needed guidebook for better teaching and better care.

“This book is a must read for those wanting to understand, design and improve our approach to workforce knowledge in dementia care.” Paul Edwards, Director of Clinical Services, Dementia UK “Its person-centred, theory and practice-based approaches to learning make it an essential book for everyone involved in the delivery, review and commissioning of dementia education." Dr Anna Jack-Waugh, Senior Lecturer in Dementia, Senior Fellow HEA, Alzheimer Scotland Centre for Policy, and Practice, the University of the West of Scotland, UK “A relevant, innovative, and important book that can underpin better education and training in dementia care.” Jesper Bøgmose, Associate Professor, Cand. This book provides an evidence-based practical resource for people intending to develop, deliver, review, or commission education and training for the dementia workforce. Throughout, the book: • Considers the importance of informal routes and mechanisms for workforce development • Examines the importance of context and setting conditions for successful implementation of training at individual, service and organisational level • Contains up-to-date international research evidence, case studies and vignettes Education and Training in Dementia Care: A Person-Centred Approach is an accessible text aimed at all levels of prior experience, from those studying and working in health and social care services and private and third sector organisations who are responsible for the training and development of their staff, to commissioners of training or those who wish to take advice to inform their practice. Improving Dementia Care Through Online Training Programs written by Michelle L. Pleasant and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Caregivers categories.

Over the next thirty years, Alzheimers disease rates will increase alongside global aging. To handle the anticipated increase in demand, knowledgeable and skilled dementia caregivers are in need throughout the long-term care spectrum. Online training programs have emerged as a viable and convenient platform to educate both formal and informal caregivers. The first and second study systematically reviewed online dementia training programs and evaluated the CARES® Dementia Basics Training Program among formal and informal caregivers. The first study is a systematic review of online dementia-based training programs for both formal and informal caregivers conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews (PRISMA) method. Methodological quality of the final sample (N=15) was assessed by the Cochrane Collaboration Back Review Group criteria. Results of the systematic review suggests that online interventions improve the condition and preparedness of caregivers, but future evaluations should consider study designs with multiple time points, control groups, and content that is personalized and interactive. In the second study, an evaluation of the online CARES® Dementia Basics Program among formal and informal caregivers was performed. The sample (N=233) included respondents from the states of OR, WA, CA and IL over three time points. Results indicate baseline differences in education, race, and caregiver type and a modest improvement in knowledge among both formal and informal caregivers. Recommendations are provided for future development and evaluation of online interventions.
