Ao longo dos anos, vem se discutindo a questão da inclusão social, escolar e profissional da pessoa com deficiência visual. Esta é uma obra que apresenta dados de uma dissertação de mestrado, que tem como objetivo geral, investigar os modos como três estudantes de graduação, com deficiência visual, atribuem, narrativamente, sentido à cargos de liderança em suas vidas. As narrativas dos participantes possibilitaram organizar as análises em três categorias temáticas: “líder de mim mesmo”, “liderança servidora” e “qualificação como estratégia para oportunidades”. Essas categorias levaram ao entendimento do sentimento de (des)valorização profissional, por parte dos participantes, ao recordarem suas experiências no mundo do trabalho. Os resultados das análises permitem ressaltar a importância de ouvir pessoas cegas, que chegaram ao ensino superior, para examinar suas expectativas sobre a liderança de pessoas com deficiência visual e os sentidos que atribuem aos cargos de líderes, de maneira a aprofundar investigações e reflexões sobre seus direitos no âmbito do trabalho e emprego, com base no que vivenciaram e no que dizem sobre suas reais perspectivas.

Com base na abordagem histórico-cultural, reconhecendo a historicidade do ser humano, e assumindo que a constituição do sujeito acontece a partir das relações com o meio e das relações com e pela linguagem, nos propusemos a conhecer como pessoas surdas foram se constituindo a partir de suas próprias narrativas. Emergiram relatos sobre as trajetórias educacionais, os desafios para a formação educacional, as marcas deixadas pela singularidade linguística, o papel da escola no processo de interação social e de desenvolvimento dessas pessoas e o surgimento da comunidade surda e dos movimentos surdos em Pernambuco. É possível, nas narrativas desses sujeitos ¬– heróis cada um a seu modo –, identificar como o desenvolvimento humano, que não se restringe apenas ao fator biológico, abarca o histórico, o humano e o social. A constituição cultural dessas pessoas foi perpassada por surdos e ouvintes, que, no processo de interação, os fizeram construir conceitos e significados que foram ressignificando sua realidade ao longo do tempo. A família, a escola e as associações de surdo são narradas como lócus de interação, ora com maior ora com menor presença da Libras. Tais espaços de convivência os impulsionam para outros espaços com outros encontros, contribuindo para a formação do coletivo surdo de onde nascem "os movimentos surdos". É pela narrativa dos surdos que conheceremos essa fatia da História.
