A pesquisa que deu origem ao livro teve como objetivo analisar a mineração transnacional, seus impactos socioambientais, políticos e econômicos na Amazônia, assim como buscou identificar as práticas de resistência das lutas populares de enfrentamento aos imperativos do grande capital. De base epistemológica marxista, a interpretação dos dados e das informações levantada deu-se a partir do reconhecimento das contradições inerentes à sociabilidade capitalista. A análise traz textos de Carlos Drummond de Andrade, devido à relação pessoal do poeta com a atividade de mineração e a influência da atividade em seus escritos. Sob o título: O Deus de ferro e a excomunhão da América Latina: mineração transnacional, lutas e resistências sociais na Amazônia, o livro traz um panorama da mineração transnacional na Amazônia paraense e mostra as particularidades socioambientais e os efeitos da exploração mineral na região, especificamente, nos municípios de Canaã dos Carajás e Barcarena. Dessa forma, o texto possui três dimensões de construção analítica: a teórica, a empírica e a poética; o empírico como ponto de partida, o teórico como recurso de apreensão e análise e o poético como uma forma de manifestação compreensiva e reflexiva do mundo social, neste caso, do mundo produzido pela megamineração na Amazônia.
