This illustrated, large-format book presents the U.S. Air Force Art Program's depiction of the Air Force across the service's history, starting with the birth of U.S. military aviation under the auspices of the Army. It interweaves the story of the Art Program, including features on artists and their thoughts on significant works, with the history of the birth and growth of the Air Force itself. The volume includes a foreword by Gen. Mark A. Welsh III, the current Air Force Chief of Staff, who calls the book a "celebration" that records "how the connection between Airmen and artists began, how this relationship evolved, and how artists have documented Air Force operations over the decades." This publication would make a great coffee table book. The author, Dr. Timothy R. Keck, spent his career in the Air Force History program and championed the Air Force Art Program while serving as command historian of Pacific Air Forces. He retired as the Air Force senior historian in 2012. This historic art reference work may appeaal to current airmen, veterans, and members of the general public with an interest in the history of air power, particularly as it is portrayed in Air Force. The Life And Music Of Sir Malcolm Arnold written by Paul R.W. Jackson and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-07-15 with Music categories.

First published in 2003. 'All of my music is biographical' declared Sir Malcolm Arnold in an interview in 1991. Arnold's turbulent life has permeated his music to a greater degree than probably any other British composer as Paul Jackson reveals in this illuminating account. Interweaving biographical details with close analyses of Arnold's major works, particularly the nine symphonies, and drawing on sketch materials never previously examined, Jackson provides fascinating insights into Arnold's compositional process, and the ideas informing works such as the John Field Fantasy and the 7th Symphony. Extensive interviews with Arnold himself as well as with his family, friends and colleagues add further perspectives on his relationships with fellow composers and musicians, publishers, critics and family. A combination of joie de vivre and periods of depression and personal tragedy, Arnold's life has mirrored his music in its combination of seemingly disparate elements that make a compelling whole.

A gripping tale of adventure, danger and humor, peppered with investment tips from a Wall Street legend The best-selling author of Investment Biker takes a fascinating journey through the world's economic situation in a convertible yellow Mercedes. This is the motivating story of entrepreneur Jim Rogers, dubbed "the Indiana Jones of finance" by Time magazine, who made his fortune playing the stock market and then embarked on his lifelong dream adventure. Together with his fiancee, Paige Parker, he set out on a three-year drive around the world that would ultimately set the Guinness world record for the longest continuous car journey. Their trip winds its way through 116 countries - through blizzards, deserts, epidemics and war zones - to discover failing economies and the new boom countries not from dry and potentially flawed statistics, but by experiencing life itself. This is a gripping tale of travel and adventure; along the way they encounter danger, love and farce. It is also a highly readable account of world economies: you won't find a more enjoyable way to be introduced to the investment potential of Bolivia, or the cultural changes afoot in North Korea. Finally it is also an inward journey in which Rogers moves from the restless traveler to husband and father, hoping one day to introduce his daughter to his own passion for travel. JIM ROGERS entered the investment business in 1968 with $600 dollars in his pocket. By 1980, at 37 years of age, he had left Wall Street with enough money to satisfy a lifelong appetite for adventure.

Ambitious, bold, proud, and undefeated on the battlefield, the charismatic and dynamic warlord, Ahuitzotl, stops at nothing in order to attain his vainglorious ends. He is involved in a plot to depose the present monarch after being assured by the leader of the inter-clan council that he would be appointed to succeed him in power. As ruler, he embarks on a series of conquests that make him the undisputed master of his world. At the dedication ceremony of the Great Temple in his capital, he orders, as a climactic exposition of his pride, the largest mass sacrifice ever known, an orgy of excess seen by the priests as outraging the gods, and for which he will suffer their vengeance. He leads his people to their greatest heights only to then bring calamity upon them, giving credence to their belief that he is being punished for having offended the gods. He alienates his allied lords as he seeks to place their kingdoms under his domination. He manipulates the lives of his two most beloved women to serve his own selfish purposes, resulting in tragic consequences for one of them. When matched in skill and prowess by the enemy lord of a rival power, he becomes obsessed with destroying his opponent, unable to tolerate this blow to his ego, and sets into motion forces that culminate in a cruel retribution against him. The world of the Aztec ruling elites, with its intrigues, politics, and bloody rituals comes to life for the reader in this epic work.

The Farenzi Files written by Alberto Benet Noguera and has been published by Palibrio this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09-17 with Fiction categories.

There’s a secret hidden in The Farenzi Files A passionate love story. A fast-paced adventure. A spellbinding whodunit. An intriguing medical mystery. And a sweeping multigenerational epic that spans the twentieth century and much of the globe-from Mexico to Italy and beyond. The Farenzi Files is all these things and more. At once thrilling, heartbreaking, and inspiring, this is a deeply moving and gripping tale like no other you’ve ever read. We enter the world of The Farenzi Files in the Mexico City of the early 1970s, when Aurelio, a construction engineer, meets the love of his life, a brilliant psychiatry student named Ofelia. But the story really starts decades earlier, with the harrowing escape from war-torn Europe by a beautiful young Italian woman named Lucrezia Farenzi. She risks her life to cross Nazi-occupied France and the vast Atlantic Ocean, under constant threat of attack from German subs and bombers, trying to reach an unlikely destination that didn’t even exist in the mental geography of most Europeans-the town of Tulancingo in the Mexican state of Hidalgo. All the while, Lucrezia’s father, a good and honorable family doctor in Rome, has made an amazing medical discovery that has the capacity to change the world-for better or for worse, depending on whose hands it falls into. This is the long-lost secret that eventually dominates the lives of Aurelio and Ofelia, turning their ideal marriage into a fevered quest for the hidden formula. Through it all, their intense, almost-mystical love gives them strength-until tragedy strikes. Praise for The Farenzi Files “A detective story worthy of Agatha Christie. The Farenzi Files teems with intrigue and mystery, as unknown forces stop at nothing, including murder, to get their hands on a medical formula. Written in nimble, staccato-like prose, this is an engrossing novel that’s a pleasure to read. I couldn’t put it down until the final outcome.” Oscar Pandal Graf, philologist and bibliophile

Skyscrapers written by George H. Douglas and has been published by McFarland this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-08-19 with History categories.

This history of skyscrapers examines how these tall buildings affected the cityscape and the people who worked in, lived in, and visited them. Much of the focus is rightly on the architects who had the vision to design and build America's skyscrapers, but attention is also given to the steelworkers who built them, the financiers who put up the money, and the daredevils who attempt to "conquer" them in some inexplicable pursuit of fame. The impact of the skyscraper on popular culture, particularly film and literature, is also explored.
