About the Book Dipak read to father and his wife Karabi, the Calcutta morning newspaper, which said: Third day after the classic fight at Listowel, Canada, Dr. Sanat Roy was on his deathbed after the fight. Helen was also injured badly. There is no trace of them in the local hospital. Nobody knows if Dr. Roy is dead or alive. This Indo-Canadian is a brilliant, strange man. People last heard about him nearly two years ago when he suddenly left the company he built to a large, most successful technology company in North America. Since then, he totally vanished from the public eye. It is now confirmed that Dr. Roy is the famous best-selling novelist Loner, the pen name he used. He also established, expanded, and supported alone an ashram in Delhi for young, helpless girls to stand on their own feet. He also supported two orphanages in Calcutta. He donated large sums of money to medical research in Canadian hospitals. People are surprised how this man, without any work, was getting over a million dollars for philanthropy alone. People are puzzled that a devoted family man like Dr. Roy was with Helen, an unknown, white Canadian woman at the time of the fight instead of his own Indian wife. This Indo-Canadian laid down his life to protect Helen from being gang-raped by the motorcycle gang without considering his own Indian family. Reporters are vigorously investigating the private life of this talented, enigmatic Indian from a Calcutta affluent family. Dipak put the paper down and closed his eyes. Father went quietly to his room. Karabi, wiping her tearful eyes with her saree, went to her bedroom. Dipak pondered, I may not see my beloved Dada (elder brother) again. Everybody loves him so deeply. This story, A Man of Two Countries, casts light on the exciting private life of Dr. Sanat Roy, who made people love him even with all his faults.

Excerpt from My Two Countries And he tried to right them. It was a wonderful and happy combination, and I often wish that it was still going on. However, I am not here to tell you of his work, but it is interesting in so far as it shows you how it came about that I stood for Parliament at all. Unless he had been the kind of man that he was, I don't believe that the first woman Member of the oldest Parliament in the world would have come from Plymouth - and that would have been a pity. Visit us online at www.1stWorldLibrary.ORG - - In June, 1867, about a hundred enthusiastic youths were vociferously celebrating the attainment of the baccalaureate degree at the University of Norway. The orator on this occasion was a tall, handsome, distinguished-looking young man named Alexander Kielland, from the little coast-town of Stavanger. There was none of the crudity of a provincial dither in his manners or his appearance. He spoke with a quiet self-possession and a pithy incisiveness which were altogether phenomenal. "That young man will be heard from one of these days," was the unanimous verdict of those who listened to his clear-cut and finished sentences, and noted the maturity of his opinions. But ten years passed, and outside of Stavanger no one ever heard of Alexander Kielland. His friends were aware that he had studied law, spent some winters in France, married, and settled himself as a dignitary in his native town. It was understood that he had bought a large brick and tile factory, and that, as a manufacturer of these useful articles, he bid fair to become a provincial magnate, as his fathers had been before him.

A Son of Two Countries is a story of struggle for education. Born in 1946 in Rwanda under Belgian colonial rule, the author recounts his early education in Rwanda and later as a refugee in Tanzania. He was naturalized as a Tanzanian citizen in 1980 while doing his undergraduate studies at the University of Dar es Salaam. As he struggled to get education, the author was also grappling with his refugee status, with all the challenges that it entailed. The book gives insights into the contradictions of colonial and post-colonial education, as well as the author’s reflections on education in Tanzania, given his long experience in the education sector in that country. Finally, we get some glimpses into the dual identity of the author as a Tanzanian citizen of Rwandan origin and how this shaped his relationship with the two countries he calls home. As he aptly puts it, “Rwanda gave me my heart; Tanzania gave me my brain. I find it difficult to choose between my heart and my brain”.
