Many who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder do not realize what is going inside themselves. Unfortunately, those who return home from combat or who have experienced any other type of traumatic event remain in the battle, the war within. Could it be that PTSD is merely physiological symptoms related to trauma, or is it so much more than that? A Marne Mind explains the advantage of coping skills and the relationship among physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual ruin and well-being while constantly pointing to the greatest source of healing and recovery. Excerpt from The Genius of the Marne: A Play in Three Scenes Marne but yesterday's glory! Be this as it may it did not surprise me that in long brooding he had dis covered a symbol, a synthesis, an interpretation of the genius that brought about the victory. The mystery of genius has always occupied the mind of man, and the play for which I have been asked to contribute a few lines of introduction is, at least I take it to be, Mr. Balderston's explanation of the inspired tactics of the retreat that led up to the Battle of the Marne. The play contains one scene truly original, one which remains in my mind and will, I think, always remain in the mind of the reader the scene in which Napoleon appears at the crit ical moment and dictates to the sleeping general the plan of the battle. Joff're seems to have had the plan of the Battle Of the Marne in his mind all the while from Charleroi to the Marne, but it seemed to refuse to take precise shape. The sleep-walking scene, as it appears to me, is admirably introduced by an argument between the General and his staff each general in turn presses the necessity of a de cision on Joff're; a decision must be taken, and at once. But think, reader, what this decision involved whether Paris was to be destroyed and the retreat continued to the Loire, or whether the world's destiny was to be decided at the Marne. In the middle of the night an exhausted general is called upon to decide. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Marne 1914 written by Holger H. Herwig and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-12-01 with History categories.

For the first time in a generation, here is a bold new account of the Battle of the Marne, a cataclysmic encounter that prevented a quick German victory in World War I and changed the course of two wars and the world. With exclusive information based on newly unearthed documents, Holger H. Herwig re-creates the dramatic battle and reinterprets Germany’s aggressive “Schlieffen Plan” as a carefully crafted design to avoid a protracted war against superior coalitions. He paints a fresh portrait of the run-up to the Marne and puts in dazzling relief the Battle of the Marne itself: the French resolve to win, and the crucial lack of coordination between Germany’s First and Second Armies. Herwig also provides stunning cameos of all the important players, from Germany’s Chief of General Staff Helmuth von Moltke to his rival, France’s Joseph Joffre. Revelatory and riveting, this is the source on this seminal event.

Set during the heroism and heartbreak of World War I, and in an occupied France in an alternative timeline, Sarah Adlakha’s Midnight on the Marne explores the responsibilities love lays on us and the rippling impact of our choices. France, 1918. Nurse Marcelle Marchand has important secrets to keep. Her role as a spy has made her both feared and revered, but it has also put her in extreme danger from the approaching German army. American soldier George Mountcastle feels an instant connection to the young nurse. But in times of war, love must wait. Soon, George and his best friend Philip are fighting for their lives during the Second Battle of the Marne, where George prevents Philip from a daring act that might have won the battle at the cost of his own life. On the run from a victorious Germany, George and Marcelle begin a new life with Philip and Marcelle’s twin sister, Rosalie, in a brutally occupied France. Together, this self-made family navigates oppression, near starvation, and unfathomable loss, finding love and joy in unexpected moments. Years pass, and tragedy strikes, sending George on a course that could change the past and rewrite history. Playing with time is a tricky thing. If he chooses to alter history, he will surely change his own future—and perhaps not for the better.
