Mind Like Mine is a stigma-busting collection of biographies of some of the great people from history who have lived with mental health conditions. Did you know Charles Darwin experienced anxiety and Florence Nightingale lived with PTSD? From Michelangelo to Deepika Padukone, Ada Lovelace to Freddie Flintoff, a great many successful people with brilliant minds and talents have lived or are living with mental health disorders. The biographies in this book show that you can't always tell what a person is going through, and that mental health conditions can and do impact people from all walks of life. The aim of this book is to help remove some of the stigma around mental health, discuss different mental health conditions, what they mean and how they are treated; and ultimately to show that mental health disorders do not have to hold anyone back from achieving their dreams. The figures featured are from a range of diverse backgrounds and disciplines across science, literature, art, music, sport, politics and popular culture. Additional feature pages will explain and explore key mental health conditions including depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety and eating disorders.

This book is a collection of my stories, which I would like to share with you, hoping that it would make you think about what goes on in my head, and other mental patients heads. That we might be labeled as something but society wants to bring us down from our gift, by giving us medication. That's what I think anyways, this is my gift to the world. Because once a man said don't ask what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country'. Now I tell you don't ask what God can do for you, but ask what you can do for God'.

Dr CR Chandrashekar: "People's psychiatrist" Dr. CRC, as he is popularly known, has written more than 200 books and 1000 articles on physical and mental health for lay people. Many of his books are best sellers and have been reprinted more than ten times. He has been educating people on mental health through lectures, workshops, and radio and TV talks to remove the stigma associated with mental illness and to ensure that patients get proper treatment. He does around 100 such events in a year, and he has been tirelessly doing this for more than 40 years. Chandrashekhar was born into a backward caste family. They were not well to do; no one had an education beyond high school and they lacked ambition. He used to get epileptic attacks when he was in school, and his parents knew no better than to take him to faith healers. When he passed SSLC, he had no plans to continue his education; instead, he joined his father's printing press. He was content to work in the press, but at the urging of his teacher, who said he should become a doctor, he joined Pre-university course and later graduated in medicine. He was wondering which field to specialize in when a psychiatrist encouraged him to train under him, and later to join DPM course in National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), where he rose to become a senior professor of psychiatry. He was a pioneer in taking psychiatric services into the community and spreading awareness of mental health throughout Karnataka. In his life he has applied for only three awards given for books. He never lobbied or applied for any awards for himself, yet he has got more than 50 prizes and awards so far. How Chandrashekar broke out of his humble background to become the most popular psychiatrist in Karnataka is a fascinating story. CRC has been conferred Padma Shri award in 2024
