Indiscriminate appplication of Pesticide causes serious problem to human health and environment. One of a measure to reduce pesticide related risks is Integrated Pest Management(IPM) approach. The study focuses the assessment of (1) economics of pesticide use and its efficiency in paddy and cotton in western zone of Tamil Nadu and (2) environment damage potential of pesticide application in paddy and cotton. The latter was based on a Environmental Impact Quotient (EIQ) field rating method. In Tamil Nadu among among all crops, cotton and paddy consume 69-73 % of the total pesticides use.Using primary data to assesses economics and the health problems associated with pesticide exposure.Use of pesticides were more in non-IPM farms compared to IPM farms of both paddy and cotton crops. It results in lower net returns of Rs.9815 in IPM paddy compare to Rs.6617 of non-IPM paddy. It was in IPM-cotton, a net return was higher (Rs.25083) compared to non-IPM cotton (Rs.20108).The high EIQ values were higher in non-IPM cotton (46.93) and paddy (40.26) compared to IPM paddy and cotton, which indicated the resistance of environmental hazards can help in designing environmental policies and regulation.

Developing safety regulations for pesticides used around the world—in excess of 2.5 million tons annually—requires reliable analytical methods for assessing their impact in food and in the environment. Analysis of Pesticides in Food and Environmental Samples presents the most effective techniques for analyzing pesticide residues and other chemical contaminants in foods as well as in soil, water, and air. Renowned Scientists Report New Data and Advances in the Field The book introduces sample preparation, extraction, and analytical methods specific to each sample type, including foods from vegetal and animal origin. Other chapters discuss important aspects of quality assurance and the applicability of hyphenated analytical techniques. In addition to a practical chapter on the use of biosensors and immunoassays for monitoring and gathering exposure data, the book addresses regulatory aspects and presents current data on the levels of pesticides found in food and environmental matrices. Latest Methods Help Scientists Develop Safer, More Effective Pesticides Analysis of Pesticides in Food and Environmental Samples enables scientists to measure and predict the behavior and toxicity of pesticides with a higher degree of accuracy. The methodologies and insight in this timely work will contribute to the development of more effective, less toxic pesticides as well as better safety regulations.

Crop protection continues to be an important component of modern farming to maintain food production to feed an expanding human population, but considerable changes have occurred in the regulation of pesticides in Europe in the last decade. The aim has been to reduce their impact on people and the environment. This has resulted in a major reduction in the number of chemicals approved for application on crops. In other parts of the world, a continuing expansion in the growing of genetically modified crops has also changed the pattern of pesticide use. In this second edition, Graham Matthews, updates how pesticides are registered and applied and the techniques used to mitigate their effects in the environment. Information on operator safety, protection of workers in crops treated with pesticides and spray drift affecting those who live in farming areas is also discussed. By bringing together the most recent research on pesticides in a single volume, this book provides a vital up to date resource for agricultural scientists, agronomists, plant scientists, plant pathologists, entomologists, environmental scientists, public health personnel, toxicologists and others working in the agrochemical industry and governments. It should assist development of improvements in harmonising regulation of pesticides in countries with limited resources for registration of pesticides.

The edited book Pesticides - Toxic Aspects contains an overview of attractive researchers of pesticide toxicology that covers the hazardous effects of common chemical pesticide agents employed every day in our agricultural practices. The combination of experimental and theoretical pesticide investigations of current interest will make this book of significance to researchers, scientists, engineers, and graduate students who make use of those different investigations to understand the toxic aspects of pesticides. We hope that this book will continue to meet the expectations and needs of all interested in different aspects of pesticide toxicity.
