A Moveable Beast Tales From L A Beyond written by Jim Marquez and has been published by Lulu.com this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-07 with Poetry categories.

From Jim Marquez, the acclaimed author of such whiskey-fueled contemporary classics as "Beastly Bus Tales", "Watching the Skies & Other Beastly Tales," and Jim's schizophrenic-murder-mystery "Pieces of L.A.", comes his long-awaited 15th self-published book "A Moveable Beast: Tales from L.A. & Beyond". As in Jim's previous titles the reader is assaulted with lurid and outlandish tales of sticky sex, cheap booze, cheaper dames, uncomfortable truths in race relations, violence, the homeless epidemic, bars, death, broken relationships, bad sex, no sex, and, in general, the corruption of the mind, body, and soul. Follow Jim across the rat infested, alcohol drenched, sad, pitiful, lost, and lonely streets of not only Jim's hometown of East Los Angeles and his adoptive backyards of Downtown LA and Koreatown, but, also Las Vegas, Paris, Berlin, Milan, Ireland, and South Korea. Devilishly written in Jim's infamous-no-holds-barred-over-the-top-foul-mouthed-and-train-wreck-first-person narrative.

Welcome to a world of tracksuits, Kalashnikovs and organised crime. After the fall of communism, the most dangerous Mafia you've never heard of ran Poland as its own private playground and wallowed in all the luxury that Eastern Europe had to offer – until someone at the heart of the gang turned traitor and brought everything crashing down in a bloody round of murder and betrayal. Today Poland is a prosperous modern democracy standing proud at the Slavic edge of the European Union. But in the years after the fall of communism it was a gangster state being bled white by criminals while police and politicians looked the other way. You can't understand Poland until you know what it was like to live here when the Cold War had ended and everyone in this poor, icy corner of Eastern Europe was looking to get rich or die trying.

A Reason To Live written by Vicki Hutton and has been published by Purdue University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-14 with Pets categories.

A Reason to Live explores the human-animal relationship through the narratives of eleven people living with HIV and their animal companions. The narratives, based on a series of interviews with HIV-positive individuals and their animal companions in Australia, span the entirety of the HIV epidemic, from public awareness and discrimination in the 1980s and 1990s to survival and hope in the twenty-first century. Each narrative is explored within the context of theory (for example, attachment theory, the "biophilia hypothesis," neurochemical and neurophysiological effects, laughter, play, death anxiety, and stigma) in order to understand the unique bond between human and animal during an "epidemic of stigma." A consistent theme is that these animals provided their human companions with "a reason to live" throughout the epidemic. Long-term survivors describe past animal companions who intuitively understood their needs and offered unconditional love and support during this turbulent period. More recently diagnosed HIV-positive narrators describe animal companions within the context of hope and the wellness narrative of living and aging with HIV in the twenty-first century. Bringing together these narratives offers insight into one aspect of the multifaceted HIV epidemic when human turned against human, and helps explain why it was frequently left to the animals to support their human companions. Importantly, it recognizes the enduring bond between human and animal within the context of theory and narrative, thus creating a cultural memory in a way that has never been done before.
